Most women want to know how to apply makeup by themselves. I will give a crash course in the makeup basics you may have missed.
MAKEUP MISTAKE: HOLDING YOUR BRUSH THE WRONG WAY
When applying foundation with a brush, hold the very end of it. You will have slightly less control but a much softer touch that’ll give you a more subtle and natural finish. Bonus tip: Use a pump of liquid foundation for sheer coverage and two pumps for medium.
MAKEUP MISTAKE: USING TOO MUCH CONCEALER
This was mentioned in lastweek’s column. With concealer, you want to get the most coverage with the least amount of product. Use your finger in a tapping motion to build thin layers of concealer under your eyes, close to your nose. Then use a concealer brush .
MAKEUP MISTAKE: USING THE WRONG LIP LINER
Lip liners are a must have in any makeup artist’s kit, and they should be in yours too. Here are three you need:
A lip pencil that’s the same color as your lipstick. Create crisp lines or fill in the entire lip with pencil before layering lipstick so the color lasts longer.
A lip pencil that matches your natural lip color. Use this shade of pencil to line just outside your lips to create a plumper look.
A lip pencil a shade deeper than your nude lipstick. Nude lipsticks can blend into your lip tone, which makes lips to disappear. Line lips with this pencil before applying lipstick for stronger definition or after for softer definition.
MAKEUP MISTAKE
There’s no question about it — lipstick can do wonders to your image! Don’t be afraid to experiment with rich, saturated colors. But, don’t forget — if your lips are naturally narrow, you should avoid using dark-toned lipsticks. Dark colors are likely to make your lips look even thinner.
If you want your lips to look fuller, lipstick can be of help, all you need to do is overdraw your natural lip line!
MAKEUP MISTAKE:BE CAREFUL NOT TO APPLY SHADOWS OVER THE WHOLE LID AREA
This will make you look visibly older! The right thing to do is to only dab the outer corners of your eyes.
MAKEUP MISTAKE:APPLYING MAKEUP TO DRY SKIN
This is a huge no-no,you should be exfoliating once a week because applying foundation onto dry skin will accentuate flakiness, and it will sit on the top of your face instead of blending in . Exfoliating weekly, then applying a rich moisturizer after.
