Al-Qur’an is a book of divine knowledge and wisdom which serves as ultimate guide to every Muslim. It’s the word of Allah sent to the seal of Prophets Muhammad (SAW). In it are topics and subject matters that concern every human endeavour regardless of age and times. This is while the Qur’an will forever remain relevant and unique from other holy books before it.
Being God’s favourite should be the goal of every Muslim because whoever becomes Allah’s favourite has got everything in life and hereafter. To attain the enviable spiritual height of turning Allah’s favourate, Quran Chapter 23vs 1-11 reveals six things a good muslim must do.
(1) HUMBILITY IN PRAYER
The first among the attributes of Allah’s favourite refers to those humble in their Solats (prayers). True believers don’t joke with their five daily prayers. Praying solat at the rightful time is very important as it’s established that the first test of man on the day of judgement will be done by examining his 5 Daily solats. Every acts of worships such giving Sadaqah and Zakat, performing Hajj, fasting in the month of Ramadan and soon won’t get one anywhere without Solat. Hence this results in efforts in futility. But once a person has a good records of Solat, Allah may overlook his shortcomings. Also, when someone dies, it’s proved that if such a person prays his solats regularly when he was alive, his corps will remain fresh for days or even longer than that. This is because Solat helps to discharge acummulated electromagnetic waves off the body. But someone who doesn’t pray get stiff 30 minutes after he dies.
(2) AVOIDANCE
OF VAIN TALK
IBn Bas is a respected scholar of Islam and he said in his Tefsir (Qur’an exposition) that vain talk can be divided into three. One is polytheism (which may by worshipping idols, by utterance or by orientation), Committing sins (going against the commandment of God), whatever that has no benefits to you and mankind at large is wrongful act that Muslims must avoid. Engaging in vain talk deepens one into doing wrongful act. It’s also important Muslims run away from sinful acts.
(3) Giving Charity: This another way of becoming Allah’s favourite. Those who love giving charity are beloved in front of Allah. This maybe through pay Sadaqah or Zakat. Zakat is compulsory for every wealthy Muslims. It however cleanses one’s wealth from filth and makes the heart pure. Zakat is paid once a year and at the rate of 1/40 of the person’s wealth. For those whose wealth wealth is not zakatable should do Sadaqah and have a pure heart devoid of transgressing Allah’s limits.
(4) BEING MODEST
God’s favourites are usually modest in every sense of the word. They are free from sex abuse and sex perversion. They are so modest that they even conceal those parts of their bodies which the law forbids to expose before others. They abstain from unlawful sex. They only engage in sexual activities with their wives. Promiscuity is never the attitude of a true believer. Their lawfully married wives are enough for them. Allah says whoever that goes against this has indeed transgressed the limit.
(5) BEING TRUSTWORTHY AND BENT ON FULFILLING THEIR COVENANTS:
Those who trustfully observe their trusts and their covenants. Being trustworthy is one of the attributes of a true believer. The peak of all good deeds is to be trustworthy. Whosoever Allah grants the gift of being trustworthy such a person is most blessed. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in one of his saying usually emphasized that whoever that lacks trust is not yet a true believer and whoever that don’t fulfill promises made is not religious. It therefore beholds every human being to be trustworthy. If you have someone’s property in your care, you made a promise to someone, even if you are leader, or a man and you shall be asked how you have handled what’s entrusted with you. Even a married woman is entrusted with her husband’s household and she shall account for how she has managed the home. Also workers of any degree and status, even apprentice, drivers, house and real estate agents are entrusted with something and they would account for how diligently they handled what is put in their care in the front of your Lord. These does not exempt Community leaders, politicians and even religious leaders, you will all account for how have managed those under you.
(6) STRICTLY ADHERING TO THE PRESCRIBED TIMES OF THE PRAYERS
These people will strictly guard their Prayers: they strictly adhere to the prescribed times of the Prayers; they perform them with due regard for their pre-requisites, conditions and articles with clean body and dress and necessary ablutions; they do not regard their Prayers as an unnecessary burden, which has to be cast off somehow; they do not recite mechanically but understand what they recite and are conscious that they are supplicating to their Lord like humble servants.
Indeed, Allah has made Paradise the inheritance of the true believers where they will abide forever. It’s important to note that the above mentioned excellent qualities of the believers are not confined to any race, nation or country. These excellences can be attained only by sincere faith and excellent moral qualities, and by the observance of prescribed laws in all the aspects of life. Also true success is not confined to transitory worldly and material prosperity but it comprises both successes in this life and in the life after death in the Hereafter, and is attained by sincere faith and righteous deeds. This is a fundamental principle which cannot be falsified either by the worldly success of the evil-doers or by the temporary failure of the righteous people. Therefore let us know that these excellent characteristics of the believers have been presented as a practical proof of the truth of the message of the Prophet (peace be upon him), for these were the result of its acceptance. May Allah count us all among his worthy favourites!
