When we talk about the Nigerians that have made it big in Abidjan in Cote D’Ivoire, so far and still rocking the scene, the name of Hajia Risikat Abeni Youssouf, (popularly called Iya Ajase) readily comes to mind.
Hajia Risikath Abeni is a Nigerian business woman who lives in Abidjan and who has had her life built in Cotonou and Abidjan, she has been rocking the 2 countries for years. The big news is that she is set to host City People magazine in Abidjan, come February 2018. She started her life through farming in Abidjan and also did a bit of buying goods from one place to another.
She had worked with a farm called “Buate” in the rural area of Abidjan before moving to the city of Abidjan and started supplying Cosmetics without having a shop. Hajia Risikat said she came to sell goods as a stranger in Abidjan make to profit thinking that after a while, she would return to Nigeria, but it was so difficult for her, after realising how long she had stayed and how much she has made in profit. After so many years, she now decided to get a shop, which birthed 6 other shops when she got the 6th one, to the extent she gave out some of her shops to her trainees. She believes in this proverb which says, “you who have and refuse to help others, you are nothing”.
After a while, she became big in Abidjan. It was then she started buying houses, travelling outside the country to buy goods.
She added that, she never believed she could be this big in life, because looking back at how she started from the beginning still amazes her. She mentioned some of her unfinished projects at hand, which she would like to share with City People magazine soon.
She plans to empower some people and she is the first person to bring Nigerian music artistes to Abidjan and has been doing that for a while. That’s one of the reasons she’s hosting City People Magazine next February in Abijdan, which promises to be a big event.
