The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has won the 2021 Governor of the year Award at the Nigerian Agriculture Awards (NAA) held yesterday in Abuja.
The Nigeria Agriculture Awards (NAA) is the country’s premier and platform for comprehensive recognition of individuals, groups and entities who have contributed significantly to the re-emergence of Nigeria, as a veritable force, in Agriculture.
The Governor, who was ably represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina and Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo attributed the state’s success in the agricultural sector to the benevolence and support of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Dapo said the state has one of the highest number of beneficiaries in the CBN/Federal Government Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP) in Cassava, and have been listed for other commodities.
He explained that the Federal Government trained the extension workers, cleared land for youth programmes, donated and equipped a brand new veterinary hospital, provided inputs for Rice and Cassava farmers, and supplied processing equipment to farmer groups in the last six months
“It is pertinent to note that Ogun State Agricultural Agenda is tailored towards the Agricultural Agenda of the Federal Government of Nigeria, as being implemented by the Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanano, especially in the areas of Support to Smallholder Farmers, Job Creation, Food and Nutrition Security, Agricultural Industrialization and Linkage of Growers/Farmers to the industrial process, in an innovative value chain approach.
“Whatever we have achieved in the Agriculture industry today is a result of the benevolence and support of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
“We currently have one of the highest number of beneficiaries in the CBN/Federal Government Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP) in Cassava, and have been listed for other commodities.
“In the last six months, the Federal Government has trained our extension workers, cleared land for youth programmes, donated and equipped a brand new veterinary hospital, provided inputs for Rice and Cassava farmers, and supplied processing equipment to farmer groups.
“As of today, the response of the good people of Ogun State to the these supports have been gratuitous and has cemented our ranking as the largest hub for industries (including Agro-ventures) in Nigeria, the largest egg and broiler producer, largest producer and exporter of lemon grass oil, largest hub for aquaculture in West Africa (according to FAO) and many others.” Dapo said.
Meanwhile, The Governor made assurances that Ogun State would continue to partner with stakeholders to deliver the benefit of Jobs, Food and Nutrition, while sustaining Food Security and our edge in Agricultural Industrialization in order to continue to deal with emerging challenges and opportunities in the Agriculture Sector.
