Happy new year my people!!! 2018 is here and with all the excess eating done over the holidays, a new problem has arrived!! SRETCH MARKS!!! We all know pregnancy can be a major cause of these marks but other factors such as sudden weight gain, sudden weight loss, stress or even genetics can be linked to the arrival of stretch marks.
Here are 5 key remedies to tackle these marks from the comfort of your home!
(1). ALOE VERA: Its healing and soothing properties are effective against stretch marks. Directly rub the Aloe Vera gel on your skin and leave for 10-15 minutes, rinse out with lukewarm water. In its raw form, this can be found almost anywhere in Nigeria. The processed version can be bought at any supermarket, pharmacy or beauty store.
(2)LEMON JUICE: The acidity of lemon juice gives it its lightening properties and this could even out the stretch marks and the skin around that area. Lemon juice is considerably harsh on your skin so use it sparingly and try not to leave it on for a long time before you rinse it out.
(3)COCONUT OIL: A lot of women around the world swear by this product. Many claim to have experienced miraculous changes in the appearance of their stretch marks. For best results, use twice daily after a shower. Coconut oil can be locally made at home (cold pressed) or bought at any supermarket.
(4)VITAMIN A: This is also known as a retinoid. Retinoids make the skin appear smoother and more youthful. It’s used in a lot of cosmetic creams and gels. Dermatologists recommend this as a natural method of getting rid of stretch marks.
(5)STRETCH MARK CREAMS: A lot of products and mixtures have already been formulated to deal with the arrival of stretch marks, especially in pregnant women. The active ingredient in these is Vitamin E. Examples of these products are Bio oil, rescue oil, Palmers stretch mark oil to mention a few. These can be purchased at any pharmacy, beauty store or supermarket. Doctors, Pharmacists and physiotherapists highly recommend these.
Please be aware that these tips may take a few weeks to a couple of months to work. Patience is key. Try these out with caution as various skin types react differently to different products.
Have a beautiful week!!!
