It gladdens my heart to welcome everyone to this seminar on sanitation and security in our markets I recall that earlier this year we had a similar program in the Ikorodu division and here we are today because of its profound relevance. You will agree with me that somehow we cannot talking about the issue of security as it concerns our homes, market and society and the nation at large, in the same vein sanitation in our market is an issue of interest your excellency, these two issues are important because the very nature of markets as a place that brings together people of different background, character and motive, therefore it will not be out of place that intelligence gathering and vigilance should form part of our responsibility this will help us to be proactive and be a step ahead of anyone or crooks that may be planning to disturb the peace of the state.
The benefits and the advantages of sanitation in our markets cannot be overemphasized considering the fact that, we have about 382 registered markets in Lagos state. This is why I commend the entire COWLSO under the able leadership of our dear first lady, Her Excellency, Dr Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu whose deep concern for a healthy and secured market inspired this gathering to inform and educate market leaders on an improved way to ensure sanitation and security in our market is guaranteed.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu will also be speaking on the Roles of Market Leaders in Security and Safety in Community Policing. During this session, Market Leaders would learn how to promptly report to the appropriate Government Agency once they notice any suspicious activity that may likely result. In a breach of peace in our markets. We must not forget that security is everybody’s business. And I believe at the end of this lecture, we would also resound the mantra: “If you see something, say something”.
One of the major challenges that bedevil markets is the incessant fire outbreaks. This means we have a lot to do in our markets to guard against these outbreaks. Most importantly is the need for us to pay keen attention to Mrs Margaret Adesoye; Director, Lagos State Fire Service Agency lecture, as she speaks on Fire Prevention and Safety in Markets. Certainly, we would learn better ways to prevent fire outbreaks in our markets.
How can accurate and timely information dissemination help to prevent bad incidences? Mr Oba Adeoye would be addressing us on how Information Management Serves as Security Tool in Lagos Markets.
While, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, during her Health Talk session would also speak on Prevention Better Than Cure. I am sure that by the time Dr. Finnih rounds off her session, we would have come to realise that it is only a healthy person that can go out for business or market. Our health is important; hence we should prevent little things on time before they escalate.
This is the reason we should pay attention to all the preventive measures prescribed by the State Government on Covid-19. We should mask up and encourage our buyers to do the same. This is the time to be more meticulous and stricter with Covid-19 in our markets. ANI FI AISAN LOGBA OOO. Amin.
We must also remind ourselves also, that the second part of rainfall for the year is already here with us. How are we expected to manage wastes in our markets? All these are issues this seminar would address.
At the end of this seminar, market leaders would have been equipped with adequate information on how to ensure security, sanitation and safety in their markets.
I must also assure you that the Sanwo-Olu Administration is on top of all these situations and will spare no effort, at ensuring the continuity of the peace and cordiality among Lagos residents.
Thank you all for joining us today as I welcome you once again to this important event. Good Morning.
