Senator Uba Sani is today a strong and effective voice for Kaduna State in the senate, and indeed a leading politician in the North. In 2019, Uba Sani contested and was elected to represent Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, in the National Assembly.
The Central Senatorial Zone, (Zone 1) consists of seven local governments namely Birnin-Gwri, Chikun, Giwa, Igabi, Kajuru, Kaduna North and Kaduna South.
Born 50 years ago, a Master of Science Degree Holder from the University of Calabar. Uba Sani has distinguished himself in the Senate, that he is currently ranked as one of the hardest working lawmaker’s in the country. In fact City People reliably gathered that Uba is presently amongst the three Senators with serious and progressive bills.
According to Other paper cited by City People, Nigeria’s leading softshell magazine, parliamentary proceedings monitoring platform, the criteria adopted in the assessment of the performances of Senator’s in the first year of the 9th National Assembly, was based on the progression of their sponsored bills, to at least get to the second reading stage.
Uba’s representation, in the senate is also largely seen as a continuation of his love for service to humanity, as a human rights and prodemocracy activist, business man and philanthropist. Uba’s devotion to helping people has endeared him to a lot of people in Kaduna State and indeed several Nigerians across the country. In his efforts to continue helping other’s he founded the ‘Uba Sani foundation” in 2018. The foundation is a Non-profit Organization which has impacted greatly to humanity.
The mission of the Foundation is to promote increased access to good healthcare services, education and improved livelihood for the under-privileged in Nigeria, so far the foundation has advanced its goals starting with its immediate catchment area, Kaduna State.
With its headquarters in Kaduna metropolis the foundation is using available resources and expertise to provide assistance to the less privilege in Education, Health and Vocational Skills/Empowerment. In the area of education, the foundation provides educational tools, scholarships, as well as career guidance to support their educational pursuit and provide relief for parents. In the Health sector, the foundation helps to save lives through the facilitation of the provision of high quality healthcare services for the under-privileged, pregnant women and children. The foundation also empowers young women and men with vocational and business skills to reduce extreme poverty, and also provide assistance to victims of natural disasters, such as fire outbreaks, flood and other calamities. In order to help them stabilizes and start a normal life.
According to information made available to Citypeople by the foundation, more them five million Naira has been distributed to some public schools in Kaduna Central zone, while over N50million has been spent on the provision of free medical testing and treatment of the vulnerable in the zone.
Similarly, over 5000 women and youths, have benefited from the skills acquisition programme, “it includes 80 grass root women from the seven local government area in the zone, while 500 women have been trained in fashion design, shoe and bag production photography, printing etc. and 1000 people benefited from its Agricultural Entrepreneurship Scheme. The Uba Sani foundation has also spent over N25m on assistance to communities affected by armed banditry, flood etc. it has also collaborated with key agencies like the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) and NIRSAL Micro-Finance Bank to assess low- interest loans of over N500million revive or recapitalize their businesses.
Uba Sani, who was formally a Senior Special Adviser to President Obasanjo on Public Affairs, Uba has also made his presence felt in the 9th Assembly by sponsoring bills that will benefit his people. Like the bill seeking to establish the federal college of education Giwa, Kaduna State, which has now been passed after considering the report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions.
Uba who is one of the Youngest senator’s in the 9th Assembly today, has also paved way for the reinvention of the banking and financial services sector in Nigeria as his bill for an Act to Repeal the Banks and other financial institutions Act 2004 and to re-enact the Banks and other Financial Institutions Act and other Matters connected therewith 2020 was passed into law by the senate. The passage into law of the crucial Bill was co-sponsored with Senator Betty Apiafi of River’s state.
The bill seeks to update the law governing Banks, financial institution, enhance efficiently in the process of obtaining or granting banking licences, and also regulate the activities of Financial Technology Companies.
Uba Sani who chairs, the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other financial institutions, has so far proved he has a deep understanding of the nations financial sector as he stoutly defended this bill. Not to be carried away by his success in the upper chamber he is working hard to actualize the bill seeking to establish a federal college of forestry Technology and Research in Brinin Gwari, and also committed to the Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal University of Technology Kaduna. The bill once it becomes an act will elevate Kaduna Polytechnic to a Federal University of Technology.
An alumnus of the United States Governments International Visitors and Leadership Programm (IVLP) which focuses on “Volunteerism and NGO Management” has enriched Uba’s knowledge on development issues and impacted on his career goals as a politician and community leader.
