- He Is Now Going Back For A 2nd Term In LAGOS
Many people were surprised a few weeks back when Senator Olamilekan Adeola popularly called Yayi did not participate in the recently concluded Ogun APC Congress.
Yayi, who is the Senator representing Lagos West, was seen involved in the recent Lagos APC Congress. This sent tongues wagging on whether Yayi would still run for Ogun governorship or he would stay back in Lagos and recontest a Senate seat.
City People can authoritatively reveal that Yayi has withdrawn from the Ogun State governorship race and he is going for a 2nd term senatorial election in Lagos State. He has also been endorsed by leaders of All Progressives Congress in Lagos West Senatorial District as well as by the state and national officers of the party. They all joined the endorsement bandwagon of Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Lagos West) to re-contest the seat of Lagos West Senatorial District in the 2019.
Last week, all the 185 Ward Chairmen of APC, all Leaders of the 28 Local Government Councils, all 28 party Chairmen of APC separately endorsed Senator Adeola for Second Term as their sole candidate.
They were joined by over 350 elders and leaders of the largest senatorial district in Nigeria to endorse Senator Adeola at an event tagged: “The Journey So far as Lagos West Senator” presented a scorecard at Radisson Blu, Ikeja. Senator Adeola told the leaders that in spite of the challenges of representing the largest senatorial district in Nigeria, in terms of population of over 12 million constituents, he has delivered on the major functions of a legislator in law-making, oversight and representation.
“With 15 Bills sponsorship, 12 of which are constitutional amendment Bills with two of them passed by the National Assembly as part of the 23 passed Constitutional Amendment Bills of the 8th National Assembly, I am one of the senators who have the highest number Bills sponsorship. I have moved, at least, three motions that had led to investigation, following Senate Resolutions. And in the area of empowerment, I have done two major empowerment programmes with another one coming up in September” he stated.
The Senator said that he had consistently remained a loyal party member who always obey directives of party leaders in all his activities, including his consultation in Ogun State for Governorship, adding that he is back to re-contest for the position of a Senator on the directive of the party based on his performance in office.
The motion for his endorsement was moved by Hon. Hotoyon Joseph Bamgbose(APC, Badagry) and supported by Mr. Bolaji Ariyo, the Chairman of 28 Secretaries to Local Government(SLG) and the motion was unanimously carried after speeches in support of the motion by Chief (Mrs.) Kemi Nelson, South West Woman Leader of APC, who said that Senator Adeola had done well for women in Lagos state as he was instrumental to her success as women leader for 15 years in Lagos State.
Other leaders who supported the endorsement are: Chief Henry Ajomale, former State Chairman of APC in Lagos, Senator Ganiyu Solomon,(GOS), Chief Sunny Ajose, Deputy Chairman , APC Lagos State, Chief Funsho Ologunde, Lagos West APC SenatorialChairman, Dr. Wale Ahmed, APC State Secretary, Dr. Abayomi Finnih, Cardinal James Odumbakun, former Deputy Chairman APC Lagos State and all 28 LGA/LCDAs chairmen of APC in Lagos State.
So, he has left Ogun APC to Amosun, who is the leader of the party in the state.
It is no longer a secret that but for Amosun, Yayi would have come out to run in Ogun APC. But his biggest obstacle has been the incumbent Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who is believed to have his eyes on a successor he has not mentioned for now.
Both Yayi and Amosun have not been on good terms since Yayi attempted to come out in 2014 to run for a senatorial seat in Ogun State, but met stiff opposition from Amosun, who fielded his candidate for that seat.
So, all the attempts made by Yayi to come out from Ogun State (where he hails from) has failed and he was compensated by Asiwaju Tinubu, who asked him to pick up the Lagos West Ticket, which he did then. Asiwaju, we heard, asked him to bid his time for 2019, to which he agreed.
All the while, Yayi had played it cool, avoiding any clash with Gov. Amosun. He had hoped he could get the elders of the party to pacify Amosun. All that have now failed.
What kind of a person is this 48 year old politician, who was born at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital to Mr. Ayinde Adeola Ogunleye and Madam Abeeni Olasunbo Ogunleye (nee Akinola)?
We can tell you he grew up in Alimosho where he began his education at the State Primary School in Alimosho, Lagos. He proceeded to Community Grammar School, Akowonjo, Lagos for his secondary education. His quest for knowledge took him to the prestigious Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, where he bagged a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting. He became a Chartered Accountant at a very young age and is a distinguished Chartered Accountant-Associate Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN); He is also a distinguished member of the AAT.
Adeola had a stint with the flagship of Nigerian newspapers, The Guardian Newspapers Limited for 12 years and rose to the position of Accountant.
Adeola proceeded to Olatunji Omoyeni & Co, a Chartered Accounting Firm, where he led the audit team for several years and was later promoted to the position of a Senior Auditor.
He later established his own company, SOOTEM Nigeria Limited, where he was the managing director and chief executive officer in the firm that specialises in tax consultancy.
Following his decision to join active politics, sometimes at the dawn of the 4th Republic, Adeola was nominated and won the primary of the then ruling Action Congress of Nigeria and was elected a member to represent Alimosho State Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2007 to 2011. He was reputed to have been instrumental to the enactment of the law that strengthened the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, a legislation that catapulted the revenue of the state from N5 billion monthly to over N20 billion. [citation needed] He was also part of the team that passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act and the Public Procurement Act of Lagos State.
He was elected to the Federal Legislature to represent Alimosho Federal Constituency at the Nigerian House of Representatives in 2011.
And when the committees of the House were inaugurated by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, he became the chairman of the only constitutional committee, the Public Accounts Committee of the House. He got the post as a first time member of the House.
He is married to Temitope with whom he has 2 male and 2 female children.
Where Is Yayi from?
City People found out that he is a son of Ago-Isaga, Pahayi, Ilaro, Yewa South local government area of Ogun State.
City People was told how not too long in the distant past, a bloody strife rose in the indigenous settlement of Isaga-Orile. The uprising led to the break-up of the ancient Yewa as inhabitants had to flee the town. Men of valour took refuge in surrounding but widely separate settlements. The progenitors of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola found succour in the expanse land of Pahayi, Ilaro in Ogun State, Nigeria, where they settled and later christened the area Ago-Isaga, Pahayi, Ilaro.
Today, a 3rd generation offspring from the then settlers has come back home to liberate his people from the shackles of wants, stagnation and underdevelopment.
Adeola’s father, Mr. Ayinde Adeola Ogunleye and mother, madam Ogunleye Olasunbo Oluwaseun (Nee Akinola), are of Yewa South and Abeokuta South Local Government Areas of Ogun State respectively.
His Yewa lineage is as current as in the 3rd paternal ancestral origin from the Agbole Onibata, Ago-Ishaga, Pahayi in Ilaro. He s the fourth son of Ayinde Adeola Ogunleye, grandson to Ogundimu Sangoloni, and a great grandson to Olege (third ancestral father). Ogundimu Sangoloni married two wives, Atikekerewoba Alake and Alaba as first and second wives respectively. Alaba who hailed from Agbole Alapapo of Joga-Orile, Yewa North LGA of Ogun State, gave birth to only one child; ayinde Adeola Ogunleye. A sizeable number of the evolved families is till today settled at Ago-Isaga, Pahayi, in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Governemnt Area of Ogun State. They are involved in farming, trading etc.
Senator Adeola’s immediate maternal lineage is of an Egba origin, being born by Madam Abeeni Olasunbo Oluwaseun of the highly respected Akinola family. His maternal grandfather, Pa. Akinola Julius Sodipo (a.k.a. Baba Pupa) of the Kilaso compound in Kenta Odutolu, Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was widely respected as a very disciplined man, who lived for over 115 years and was a successful farmer and trader with exceptional leadership qualities.
Verifiable historical evidence reveals that his mother’s paternal grandparents were from Itoku before arriving Kenta in the present day Abeokuta South Local Governemnt Area of Ogun State. His mother’s grandfather, NOfiu Odu, gave birth to Julius Akinola Sodipo, the Madam Abeeni Olasunbo Oluwaseun (YAYI’s mother).
The famly’s farmland is in Asu, in Kobape Area of Obafemi Owode LGA, also in Ogun State. Asu is the District hub for 7 other settlements, while Kobape is within a Local Government Development Area Council. Madam Abeeni Olasunbo grew up at Ikija, also in Abeokuta South LGA.
Madam Olasunbo’s maternal root is in Olorunda, near Imala Village on the way to Ilaro. During her life time, Madam Abeeni Olasunbo was an active and prominent member of Egbe Alaro Cloth Dealers in the famous Itoku market, Abeokuta.
From the above narratives, Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola is evidently rooted in both Yewa and Egba lineage of Ogun State.
Many don’t know Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola grew through self-development. He began his formal education at State Primary School in Alimosho, Lagos and proceeded to Community Grammar School Akowonjo, Lagos for his Secondary Education.
He subsequently proceeded to the prestigious Ondo State Polytechnic Owo, now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, where he bagged a Higher National Diploma in Accounting (H.N.D) out of personal zeal to excels, Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola got enrolled for his professional courses, while in school, becoming a Chartered Accountant at a very young age. He is a distinguished Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and also an Associate Chartered member (ACA) of the the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
He started his professional carrier as a junior staffer with The Guardian Newspaper Limited, where he worked for 12 years and rose to become the Accountant.
He later proceeded to Olatunji Omoyemi and Company: a Chartered accounting firm, where he led the audit team for several years. He was then promoted to the position of a Senior Auditor.
Later, he floated his company, SOOTEM Nigeria Limited, where he was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. SOOTEM is a specialised tax consulting firm.
With a determination to serve humanity, he contested for an Assembly seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly in the 2003 and convincingly won the election, representing Alimosho Constituency 02, a post he was re-elected for the second time in 2007 on the platform of the then Alliance for Democracy (AD), later Action Congress (AC), and Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) and now All Progressive Congress (APC).
