You look sweet, how many minutes do you take to look this sweet?
We are trying to empower women now, so for them to get their gele in place, it is just 5 minutes and in all, with dressing up, let us say 45 minutes. Being beautiful is not just about appearances. It also has to do with what you have inside you.
You are an ebony beautyand many would have loved to “tone it up”, why didn’t you bleach as at the timemany of your contemporaries were toning up”
Like I said, being beautiful is not just about appearance. Black is beautiful. As far as I am concerned, I don’t believe in toning and bleching the skin to look beautiful. There is a beauty body called “LACOMB”, which deals with beauty in women. They want us to appreciate our colour and they chose about 47 women and I was one of them. They took our photographs and said you have a shade that can make you beautiful. You can buy the foundation that will make you beautiful.
Your husband is a top politician, and you are a judge, do you work with Lagos State Government?
I am a Judge with High Court of Lagos. I am not a politician.
How long have you been married to him?
I have been married for 35 years and still counting.
What has sustained yourmarriage for 35 years, seeing that many young couples just want to pack uptheir marriages these days?
Marriage is not a bed of roses. When you think of roses, it has “thorns” and so out of the roses you will notice “thorns” looking at the flower. So, in every marriage, you have one challenge or the other, but in every challenge, women should remain focused. Be patient and ensure they keep their home by being faithful. They should also take care of things around them. Their homes, husband and children.
If women can do all these, it is likely that your marriage will not break up or pack up.
What has sustained your marriage for 35 years?
I will say being patient, tolerant and having God. God and love are the basis of any marriage, of course, nobody can do without God in their marriage. We have also seen many examples from the Bible.
Couples should also pray for wisdom in their marriage. It is what you learn from the Bible that you put to pratice. Home is built on wisdom.
Where did you meet your husband?
I met my husband in Lagos many years ago.
What was the firstthing he said to you?
I can’t remember what he said first. I was 17 years old when I met him and he was 21 years. I knew he was going to be my husband the day I met him. It was on the mainland many years ago.
How did you know, is it because he is handsome?
No. He didn’t even see me. I saw him first and I was like who is this guy? t was near his grandmother’s place. We met again and he asked me out.
Did you play hard to get?
Of course, yes, but it was love at first sight.
What can you say aboutPrince Vicky Haastrup as he celebrates his 70th?
He is a family man who is very God fearing. He is always in the church with his wife. Not many even know he is a Deputy Governor because of his humility. He is so humble.
Tell us what many people don’t know about your husband?
It is his humility. It is second to none. He is very humble. You know people don’t sometimes sees this, he is so humble. He also loves unconditionally. I mean this in terms of friendship, very loyal.
How is it like being anonly wife, what is the secret?
It is more of relationship. Your husband must be your friend. Communication is key.
What do you call him?
What do I call him? I don’t call him “Babe”, I call him “Femi”
It is the grace of God. I try not to use hash chemicals on my skin. I use shear butter. I am always afraid of cream.
