A few days back, popular Ibadan female politician, Laide Lanre Badmus was made the Oyo State Co-ordinator for the 2019 Buhari/Osinbajo presidential campaign. She is the only woman amongst the co-ordinator frm all the South West States.

She is a strong woman, with very strong views politically. She has this favourite quotation she likes to quote all the time. It reads: If you want anything, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman. She is also called the Duchess of Ibadan. Last week, she spoke to City People Publisher, SEYE KEHINDE about her new job to make Buhari win Oyo State votes. Below are excerpts of the interview.

Congratulations on your new assignment and appointment. How does it make you feel?

I feel good. I am so excited, because I have a platform to showcase what I can do as a woman in politics.

Is it not a tough assignment for a woman?

What do you mean by a tough assignment for a woman ? Everyone that knows me ,  knows I am the word tough itself. Mr Seye Kehinde, the seat of strong determined women like me, will buzz your head.

You are also the only woman among the co-ordinators from South West. How do you see that honour?

It’s a very great privilege for me, & I feel so honoured & proud of my being.

Tell us about Laide Lanre Badmus. What sort of a person is she?

Laide Lanre-Badmus, was born on the 10th of July 1981. She is a Lifestyle Consultant, a politician. She is the Founder and Principal Partner of Alice Unique Multiventures Ltd & Laide Lanre-Badmus  ( LLB ) Nig Limited, a firm that provides custom-made interior designs and decoration, General contracts & supply. She manages the organization and oversees all its operations.

As a Lifestyle Consultant, I basically help in empowering people in setting realistic goals and achieving them. She is a  Research Consultant, She is a Fellow at the Institute Of Personality Development & Customer Relationship Management…….. IPD – CRM. She currently runs a not-for-profit organization on the empowerment of women. Ms Olaide Lanre Badmus has invested immensely in several non-profit

organizations across the globe. She is a fellow of the Women Global Leadership Network; a multiple award winning entrepreneur. Ms Laide Lanre Badmus is a strong woman with a Vision and a Mission to positively impact her society. I am a lady with GREAT INSTINCTS that will TRANSFORM  what is given to me more than what was PRESENTED  to Me !!!!

How did you get into politics? What year?

I have been in politics since I was 15 years old, because my stepfather was then a member of NRC, he contested for counsellor or chairmanship, but didn’t win. There was always meetings in our house then, which as a teenager I was involved in. I joined my mum in catering for the guests, I joined the other young people in giving out souvenirs to politicians that comes to the house, pasting of posters on the wall & also join in door to door campaigns.

I became an active politician in 2011,when Governor Ajimobi put in for his guber race 8years ago, & to the glory of God,I have always been in the winning team……

Tell us about your growing up years. Where were you born and schools attended?

Growing up wasn’t all rosy, but looking back today, I can only be thankful to God. I was born in Ibadan, Oyo state 38years ago. My primary school was in Sacred Heart Private School, Ring Road, Ibadan Oyo State.  Secondary school was in Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, Ondo State.

I attended Ogun State University (OSU) now (OOU) Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, where I obtained a diploma in law. I later proceeded to Leads City University, Ibadan where I had my LLB in Law and BSC in politics and international relations. I also have a Master in Public speaking.

Some say you are a tough woman. Some like to praise you by saying Laide Kan, Ibadan kan. Are they right?

Yes I am tough. Simply because I am a  strong willed woman, an independent minded being & also a go getter. I believe nobody owes you anything in this  life we are in. Sometimes, you have to fight for what you want ! Sometimes life is about risking everything for a dream no one can see.

I am not that kind of woman that throws pity party all in the name of needing help. I believe when life gives me a hundred reasons to CRY,which has happened a thousand and one times , I remember God has given me a thousand reasons to SMILE…..There is no one that has ever achieved greatness by feeling sorry for themselves. That is where I am today…..

I believe life is all about balance. Know your strength . Ask for help .     Prioritize . I believe so much in myself & I never give up on anything I believe in. I stay positive always, knowing my tomorrow will be better than today. It’s not about where I am today, but where I will be Tomorrow.

These attributes are why people call me a tough woman. As for the Laide kan Ibadan kan thing, I don’t understand where that came from.

So how do you plan to go about your new assignment?

I already have so many things lined up, which kicks off any moment from now. But I cant just start off without getting a go ahead from the national Coordinator & my superiors…..

What makes you think your candidate Buhari will win the presidential election?

I dont think my candidate will win the election, “ I KNOW HE WILL WIN” ………President Buhari is a man of integrity with the ability to make Nigeria a better country. My candidate is the only one so far amongst all others that has a clean slate when it comes to stealing or any form of unethical behavior. “ If you want anything said , ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman.”
