Speaker of the Kano state house of assembly, Abdullahi Ata, has been impeached while Al Hassan Rurum has been elected the new speaker.
Rurum had resigned as speaker of the assembly in July 2017 over allegations of bribery.
The motion for Ata’s impeachment was raised by Labaran Madari, member representing Warawa constituency, and seconded by Abdullahi Muhammed, the lone member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the assembly.
The 40-member assembly resumed on Monday after a two-month recess.
On May 15, 24 members of the assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against Attah but the state governor intervened in the crisis.
Ata was accused of not carrying other principal officers in running the affairs of the house.
