On Thursday, May 18, Hon. Ibrahim Adigun, Sole Administrator Ejigbo LCDA donated an 18 -seater bus to the Ejigbo CDA community development committee (CDC) to commensurate part of their agenda to make Ejigbo a better community for all. The Honourable is bent on providing support for his community to complement His Excellency, Governor Ambode’s good work in the state speaks with City People’s SUNDAY ADIGUN on his journey into politics and his life as the sole administrator of Ejigbo LCDA.
Can we meet you sir?
My names are Ibrahim Abiodun Adegun, sole administrator of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area.
Tell us about your background.
Thank you, I was born in Lagos. I attended Olowogbowo Primary School, Lagos Island but the later part of my primary school was at Salvation Army Primary School, Dopemu, Agege, Lagos, my secondary school was also in Agege then, I proceeded to the University of Ibadan where I studied Mechanical Engineering, I also did post graduate in Information System design at a university in UK, I have worked with numbers of firms and I have business interest in diverse areas including Farming, Information Technology, Equipment leasing, etc. and last year to the glory of God and with the support of our leaders in the party, I was appointed as the Sole Administrator for Ejigbo LCDA, and we have been in the office since June 13, 2016 till date.
How did your journey into politics start?
I’ve always been somebody who likes providing services, I have been serving my community right from my youthful age, it is been a part of me. I was very active in my little age, back in 2008 and 2009 I started getting involved in more activities relating to communities. In 2010, I was involved in Data registration and during the election I was on ground to support all the candidates of the party. I was assisting them with their campaign and provided facilities and assets to support them for the election. In a nutshell, we’ve been in this journey for a while.
Let’s talk about your life as the Sole Administrator, how has it been?
Like I said, serving the people for me is a great opportunity, so I see it as a good opportunity to serve the people of Ejigbo LCDA. When we came on board, the first thing I did was to organize a kind of stakeholder talk to understand what is happening in the community, so I met with the stakeholders, Kabiyesi, party leaders, community leaders, the artisans from different angles, we met with ourselves, listened to ourselves, see what the challenges are and all that.
So, based on that we were able to come into agreement and have direction on what we needed to do in order to key into the vision of our Governor, His Excellency, Governor Ambode, and you will agree with me that he’s been doing excellently well. So, our policies are geared towards what governor Ambode is doing at the state, to complement his activities. So the first thing I tackled was to repair all the revenue vehicles that we have, we needed to make sure that our staff are comfortable and they can go out on any assignments at anytime. Our Ambulance wasn’t working when we came on board, but we put everything in order.
Secondly, based on our interaction with the community we found out that one of their priorities is road and we understand the economy condition of the country and the state, and we know that His Excellency has been doing a lot in terms of infrastructure, so to compliment his effort, we repaired some of our equipments and we started work on our roads, we made them motorable then we’ve done empowerments severally.
You mean empowerment for the youths?
Not only the youths, for different part of the community, we did for youths, we did for widows we did for women, and we did the one that is meant for everybody. We provide assistance for people who require medical assistance. In addition to our achievements we distributed GCE forms to our students. We recently did something for our nursing mothers; we provided baby products and diapers.
The CDC meeting has not been taking place for a while but when I came on board, we got that back and the meeting has been taking place and stable, where we always reason together to see how we can improve and impacts community. Part of the result from that meeting is this, 18-seater bus that I’m donating to them today, I discovered that they needed to do so many thing but they don’t have the means to move around. So, I took it upon myself and gave them this bus to the glory of God. So, these are few of the things we have done so far.
What were the feedbacks you got so far?
By the grace of God, we are getting lots of feedbacks. Part of it is the Awards you are seeing. They really recognize and appreciate us.
I heard Sole Administrators cannot contest for chairmanship, is it true and what is your take on that?
Yes, it’s true, it is the party decision and it is supreme to me, whatever they say, it’s the final.
But looking at your achievement and your commitment towards the growth, what if your community prefers you as their chairman, would that in anyway change your leader’s opinion or decision?
It would be a thing of joy to know that the community appreciates our contributions to the growth of Ejigbo. However, my being appointed as a sole administrator was through a political party and I say again it’s decision is supreme and binding.
What else would you do for your community after your tenure?
Before now, I have been assisting the community on my personal level; I will surely contribute my quota to make sure that we have a good community because everything you do to impact your community doesn’t go astray. The Almighty God has been rewarding me.
