Lagos House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu Eshinloku on Friday, called on Muslims to offer special prayers for greater peace, unity and continuous progress of Nigeria, as they join their counterparts across the world to celebrate Mawlid nabiyy, which is the birth of Prophet Mohammed.
The Deputy Speaker, in a statement released on Friday, December 1, 2017, enjoined Muslims to follow the exemplary leadership of the Holy Prophet by promoting peaceful existence.
He wrote:
As we Muslims celebrate Mawlid Nabiyywhich is the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
We must use today to reflect, imbibe and uphold on the preaching of Prophet Mohammed who was an embodiment of virtues. He never discriminated among people on the basis of their colour, tribe, creed or social status; in the heydays of slavery, he advocated freedom of slaves; in an environment full of resentment and staunch opposition, he always adopted a forgiving approach, never avenging any wrong done to him.
He propagated caring, supporting the sick, feeding the hungry and was really kind. He refrained offensive names and encouraged responsible living and judicious utilization of natural resources like water even if we have limitless access.
In an affirmation, I implore us to follow in the good deeds of Prophet Muhammed, who touched lives positively and lived by good examples. May the Peace and Blessing of Allah be upon him.
This last month of 2017 will usher in good tidings and we shall all witness 2018 in good health.
Happy Eid el Mawlid and a wonderful December to remember.
