It will surprise and also interest you to know that in the present administration of Nigeria, President Buhari has some key people who work with him, who bear the same name, comes from the same state but not really related. Mentioning the name Kyari pops up in anyone’s mind because it is one of the names in this present government that is very popular owing to the fact that some of them have put themselves on a high pedestal that you get to hear about them almost on daily basis, such instance is president Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari who also shares the same name with one of the most decorated police officers in president Buhari’s government, Abba Kyari. There are other key men who are also bearing Kyari, comes from the same state, Borno and holds key positions in President Buhari’s government. MELE KOLO KYARI
After he became the boss of NNPC a few months back, Mele Kyari’s name went viral last 2 weekends when two of his children got married in a superlative wedding in Maiduguri which practically shut down the whole city as top dignitaries flew over 40 private jets to the northern city. Born 55 years ago, Mele Kolo Kyari hails from Borno State. He is a Geologist, unionist, crude oil marketer and the 19th Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.( NNPC) Before this appointment, Kyari was the Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division of the NNPC and the Nigerian National Representative at the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) since 2018. He obtained a degree in Geology and Earth Science from the University of Maiduguri in 1987. He attended Government Community Secondary School Biu in Borno State.. In 1987, he obtained his bachelor of science (BSc) in geology and earth science from the University of Maiduguri.
After the retirement of Maikanti Baru from the corporation on 7 July 2019. Kyari was appointed by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari as the 19th GMD of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. In 1991, he joined NNPC Processing Geophysicist with Integrated Data Services Limited. In1991, he started his career with the Department of Geological Survey of Nigeria as Field Geologist. He worked as an Exploration Geophysicist with the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) in 1998. In 2007, Kyari head the Production Sharing Contracts Management in the Crude Oil Marketing Division (COMD). In 2014, he became the General Manager, Crude Oil Stock Management while in 2015 he was promoted to the post of Group General Manager, COMD. He’s the focal person for the Open Government Initiative, the initiative helps the government to track the buyer and seller of crude oil. On 13 May 2018, He became the Nigerian National Representative at OPEC.
ABBA KYARI
Unarguably, the Most Decorated Officer In The History Of The Nigeria Police. Abba Kyari is a DCP of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF. Formerly serving at the Lagos State Police Command, in the capacity of the Officer-In-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS for 5yrs, an outfit reputed for combating violent crimes ranging from armed robbery, car theft, kidnapping, gang clashes, sea piracy and terrorism. Kyari, a Kanuri by tribe, is a native of Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State. The 45 years old was born on into the family of Alhaji Baba Kyari, at the metropolitan city of Maiduguri, Borno State. He had his primary and secondary education, at the University of Maiduguri Staff Primary School and Government College Maiduguri, where he obtained his Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate, SSCE. He gained admission into the University of Maiduguri in 1993 and graduated with a Bachelors’s degree in Geography in 1997. Afterward, he proceeded on his compulsory National Youth Service, NYSC, and was attached to 6th Motorized Infantry Battalion of the Nigeria Army, at Igbawa Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The most accomplished detective and a gallant police officer with numerous national and international accolade have in all his career being a success, his warm-heartedness, good-naturedness, amiable and charitable nature has also remained his forbearing testament. He joined the Nigeria Police in the year 2000 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and the rest is a story of a myth that has defiled conquerors.

ABBA KYARI COS
One other powerful Kyari is in president Buhari’s kitchen cabinet is Abba Kyari. He is very close to the presidency and some times determines what happens. He is the Chief of Staff to the President and was appointed to the position on 27 August 2015. Abba Kyari graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from the University of Warwick, England in 1980. He also possesses a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law from the University of Cambridge, England and was called to the Nigerian Bar after attending the Nigerian Law School in 1983. He obtained a master’s degree in law from the University of Cambridge. He later attended the International Institute for Management Development at Lausanne, Switzerland and participated in the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School. Abba Kyari worked for the law firm Fani-Kayode and Sowemimo for some time after his return to Nigeria. He was Editor with the New Africa Holdings Limited Kaduna and served as Commissioner for Forestry and Animal Resources in Borno State. Abba, Kyari was Secretary to the Board of African International Bank Limited. He was Executive Director, Management Services, United Bank for Africa Plc. (UBA) and was later appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Bank. He was appointed a Director of Unilever Nigeria Plc. And he is a Director of Exxon Mobil Nigeria. He is a recipient of the Nigerian Honor Award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (O.O.N).
DIKWA KYARI
The new Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance (Special Duties) is Dr. Muhammad Kyari Dikwa and he has been instrumental to the successful implementation of Treasury bills. As Director Special Projects and Secretary Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA), he detected and deleted over 50,000 ‘ghost’ workers from the payroll of the Federal Government, while 400 others, who were also discovered to be collecting double salaries were sanctioned.
Born on January 3, 1960, in Dikwa town of Borno State, Dr. Dikwa had his primary education at Dikwa Central Primary School. He attended Science Secondary School Gashua and Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri where he obtained a WAEC and a Diploma (Accounting). He obtained a BSc in Accountancy and a Masters Degree in Finance. Dikwa has a Doctorate Degree in Accounting and Finance. He had attended the Senior Executive Course 34 in 2012 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru. He is a professional accountant. He started his career with the Borno State Civil Service in August and served in various ministries, departments and agencies. He was appointed as State Accountant-General in May 1999 and Permanent Secretary in February 2002. In September 2004, he joined the Federal Civil Service as Director under the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation. He served on the boards of many Federal Government companies and agencies. He was the director in-charge of revenue and investment, and the director of funds under the office of the Accountant General of the Federation before his elevation to the position of Permanent Secretary. Dr. Dikwa acted on various occasions as the Accountant-General of the Federation including the last Acting – appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari on June 12, 2015. Before his elevation to the rank of Permanent Secretary, Dr. Dikwa was Director Special Projects and Secretary Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA) under the Office of the Honourable Minister of Finance.
ABUBARKA KYARI
Abubakar Kyari is the Senator who represents Borno North senatorial district in the National Assembly, and a member of the All Progressives Congress. He was born in Borno State. He was educated in both Nigeria and the United States of America. He attended Kaduna Capital School. He then proceeded to Barewa College Zaria where he obtained his WASSCE In 1979. He attended the University of Tennessee Martin in the USA where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1986. Thereafter in 1989, he attended Webster University St.Louis Missouri USA for his Masters in Business Administration (MBA). Prior to becoming a Senator, he was a member of the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2003. From 2003 to 2005, he was made a Honorable Commissioner in Borno State. From 2007 to 2011 he continued as a Honorable Commissioner. Kyari has Security, Agriculture and Petroleum as his Legislative interests. He also targets to end insecurity and to revamp agriculture in Borno North. In the 2015 elections, he contested for the Borno North Senatorial seat and won under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
FATIMA KYARI
Ambassador Fatima Kyari Mohammed is the Permanent Observer of the African Union to the United Nations. Up until her appointment, she was Senior Special Advisor to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission. She has more than a decade of experience working with ECOWAS and its institutions in different capacities, with a focus on peace and security, regional integration and organisational development.
Prior to joining ECOWAS, she was the Executive Director at West Africa Conflict and Security Consulting. She has also previously worked as a Programme Manager for regional cooperation in West Africa at the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS and as Regional Project Manager for security policy projects in West Africa with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. Her thematic expertise includes peace and security, conflict prevention and transformation, gender, regional integration, and socio-economic development.
Fatima holds a Master of Arts in Peace, Security, Development and Conflict Transformation from the University of Innsbruck, Austria and a Master of Arts in Sustainable Economic Development from the UN University of Peace in Costa Rica.
She also holds an MBA in Business Communication from the European University in Switzerland and a BA in Environmental Design from the Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria.
BUKAR ABBA KYARI
The Co-founder of Trans Sahara Investment Corporation, Kyari Abba Bukar, is also the Executive Chairman of the board of directors of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) who quit his position to contest has quit his position as former Chairman, Kyari Bukar brings the discipline and sharp intellect of a dedicated scientist to every aspect of his career. His fierce analytical skills and innovative thinking have won him praise and admiration since his early days as a member of a senior management team directing strategic development of a $5 billion business unit of the Hewlett-Packard Company. Kyari was instrumental in introducing Visa cards into the Nigerian e-payments space and writing the rules that have underpinned the phenomenal growth in the sector.
