When the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, in his inaugural speech, promised to include women in his government, many thought it was just political talk. But true to his word, the governor has, indeed, kicked off the promised socio-political revolution in the Pacesetter State by putting action behind his pre-election promises to advance youth and women inclusion in government. Evidence of which has clearly shown in his appointments. In fact, Governor Seyi Makinde has set a new record by appointing the first female SSG in the state. City People’s Correspondent, DARE ADENIRAN looks into the cabinet and some appointments of GSM, as Engr. Seyi Makinde is widely called and found these 7 women who are currently working with the governor. They are not just ordinary women, but women with class and clarity of purpose. Virtually all of them have groundbreaking academic records and great antecedents. Read on.
MRS. OLUBAMIWO ADEOSUN
The Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Mrs. Adeosun has an intimidating C.V. She has been described by many as a woman suitable for the job. She is a licensed Pharmacist and a Chartered Human Resources Practitioner. She has a degree in Pharmacy and Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Benin in 1990 and 1997 respectively. She has held leadership roles in SmithKline Beecham (GlaxoSmithKline). She also had a stint at Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). She has over 26 years of diverse multinational experiences. Adeosun has also held multiple roles with local and global companies. She is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), Nigeria. She is also a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD), United Kingdom.
As an active member of CIPM, Mrs. Adeosun is said to be involved in a foundation that is currently executing a program for young leaders to imbibe leadership value of Integrity, Excellence, Empathy and Transformation. She is the first female SSG Oyo State has ever had.
MRS. OLOLADE AMIDAT AGBOOLA
The wife of former Senate Deputy Chief Whip, PDP chieftain and Chairman, Oyo State Advisory Council, Senator Hosea Agboola, Alhaja Ololade Amidat Agboola is the Head of Service of Oyo State. She is from Ibadan. She joined the public service of Oyo State as Administrative Officer in 1988 and held various positions of responsibility across the service until her appointment as Permanent Secretary in March 2015, in the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
She attended Queens School, Ibadan between 1975–1981 for her secondary school. She holds the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) as well as Master’s degrees in History and Public Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife in 1985 and 2008 respectively.
HON. FUNMILAYO ORISADEYI
The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Funmilayo Orisadeyi is no doubt one of the few well-grounded women in Oyo politics. She is a former lawmaker of the State’s Assembly.
Hon. Funmilayo Okiki-Olu Orisadeyi was born on 6th July 1957 to the family of Late Pa Samson Oluwole Omoye Compound of Tapa town in Ibarapa North Local Government of Oyo State.
She attended Methodist Primary School, Tapa for her First School Leaving Certificate in 1963 to 1973. She proceeded to Baptist Secondary Modern School Ayete in 1974 to 1977 where she obtained her Secondary School Certificate. She furthered her education at Divisional Teacher Training College, 1980 to 1983, to obtain Grade II Certificate. She attended the University of Ibadan where she got her Grade I Certificate between 1989 to 1990.
Hon. Funmilayo Orisadeyi worked as a Class Teacher in many schools. She was a teacher in H.L.A Oke-Oba Eruwa, Baptist Primary School Maya, St. Michael Primary School Aborerin in Eruwa, Ebenezer A.C School Eruwa, CAC School II, Sango Ibadan and CAC School I, Obadare Sango Ibadan all between the year 1979 to 1990 before She retired on 2nd May 1990 to join politics.
Hon Funmilayo Orisadeyi attended Mount Zion Institute of Christian Drama where she obtained her O’Level and A’Level Certificate in Christian Movies and she later attended Several Professional Trainings, Programmes, Seminars, Workshops and Conferences both in Nigeria and Overseas. She was the Producer of the most widely sold films of Ile-Ariwo, Gbajumo among others.
She started her Political career in NRC as Oyo State Women Coordinator and was later nominated as State Assistant Secretary of the said party. She was the UNCP Oyo State Welfare Officer. Also, she was Oyo State Women Leader for the Republican Convention Party, She was the only Woman Co-ordinator for Poverty Alleviation Programme (PAP) Oyo State in 1990. She was the only Woman amongst the PDP Local Government Party Chairmen between 2005-2007.
ALHAJA FAUSAT SANNI
She is the Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion. She has been doing wonderfully well since she came on board. She has proven the governor right that indeed women are part of great tools to the development of a society and democracy.
MS. TARA ADEFOPE
Ms. Tara Adefope is the Director-General of the Oyo State Due Process Office. She is a United Kingdom-trained lawyer with an LLB Law (Hons) Degree from the University of Leicester and an MSc. degree in Corporate Governance and Business Ethics from the Birkbeck University of London.
Ms. Adefope also has considerable experience in the private sector and has worked with the International Finance Corporation (IFC). She is a member of the World Bank Group, where she led Corporate Governance activities in Nigeria and Ghana on the Africa Corporate Governance Programme. She has been described by many as the right choice and a tested hand in that position.
BOLANLE SARUMI
She is the governorship candidate of the National Interest Party (NIP) in the last guber election in Oyo State. She has since decamped to PDP and has been appointed as Senior Special Assistant (Diaspora) by Engr. Seyi Makinde. Mrs. Sarumi-Aliyu is a daughter of the late Ibadan politician and member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency between 1999 and 2003, Honourable Ali Balogun Sarumi, popularly known as Alli Bay.
She had her primary and secondary school education in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, before proceeding to the United Kingdom, where she earned various certifications in Social Work and Welfare, Psychology and Sociology.
She also holds a degree in Social Policy from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
Sarumi-Aliyu, who contested the March 9, 2019 governorship election on the platform of NIP, is currently the CEO of Bees Bridal Ltd, an event-planning, catering, decorating and bridal wears venture as well as the CEO, MIA Uniform- a uniform manufacturing company. She is also the founder of Childhood Bridge International Initiative and BASA Foundation, both of which are non-governmental and non-profit making organisations.
MS. OLOLADE AJIBOLA
Ms. Ololade Ajibola is the Special Assistant on Special Duties to Engr. Seyi Makinde. The 26-year-old Ms. Ajibola graduated with a degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan and presently pursuing her Masters degree from the same University. Prior to this role, she volunteered with various not-for-profit organizations and worked with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social development, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
