How long has Rotimi Olu & Co been in existence and tell us more about company?
About 9 years, precisely 20th April, 2012.
What does it take to run a successful real estate company in Abuja?
In the real estate business, you have to be honest and devoted to your client. Transparency and integrity takes you to greater heights. The real estate business is not like any other business so these traits has to be portrayed always.
What makes it different from other real estate companies in Nigeria?
Our mission is to place great emphasis on delivery of quality jobs at scheduled time thus ensuring maximum satisfaction of our clients without compromising standard. Rotimi Olu & Co is well positioned to meet the future challenges.
What were you doing before venturing into real estate business?
Though I read Estate Management in school. That youthful zeal was still there and I wanted to go on and become a banker. Thankfully, one of the leading banks in Nigeria today was the place I was supposed to carry out my national service. I was turned down at some point. I scaled through all the hurdles of documentations but surprisingly, they said “You did not study anything related to banking’. Then one of my uncles and some family members called me and said: “Go back to your background”. The rest is history.
What inspired you to go into real estate business?
I had worked with some top firms in Nigeria. I first worked with Bello & Co where I spent a couple of years. But the inspiration for starting my own business came when I was working with Jide Taiwo & Co. I was made to go and start a branch which I never in my life had experience. It was challenging but I pulled through and excelled.
Can you tell us more about your success story?
When I started my company, precisely in March 2012, it was a very small office squatting with someone in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja. In less than 6 months, we moved into a bigger office. One of the challenges we had was acceptance. It was a difficult task convincing people because they didn’t know me or my firm. But presently, the firm is gaining the necessary acceptance and has grown into one of the biggest estate firms with branches across Nigeria.
What are the major challenges you are facing in the sector and how can government help out?
One of the major challenges faced – especially now is the issue of not having a conducive environment to thrive. Most people think patronising professionals is expensive and they prefer to hire road side agents ignorantly. We always advise clients and prospects to patronize professionals more. The government needs to appreciate the services professionals have brought to the table. With this I assure you, every client will see value for their money.
