Every December, His Eminence, Primate Emmanuel Omolaja Aremu Olorunwo, the Primate of Olorunwo Cathedral Church of Cherubim & Seraphim of Nigeria located at Bakare Daudu Street, Gbagada, Lagos, usually hosts his church’s Christmas Carol & Service of 9 Lessons and it is usually star studded.
At last years Xmas Carol, former head of state, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo stormed the event in a grand manner, looking ebullient and stylish in his flowing white agbada. He danced into the Church and he delivered his Goodwill Message and read a lesson at the Cathedral Church.
The big news is that the 2018 Xmas Carol & Service of 9 Lessons is here and it will hold in a few days’ time.. The Special Guest of Honour will be His Excellency, Senator Ibikunle Amosun (FCA, CON) the Ogun State Governor. The Royal Father of The Day is His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo (CFR).
At the 32nd edition of the annual Christmas Carol last year, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was the cynosure of all eyes as he danced into the hall and mid-way into the service he read the lesson and delivered his goodwill message.
In preparation for this year’s Xmas Carol, the beautiful Cathedral has been repainted and refurbished and everywhere is wearing a new and colourful look. And the road on which the church is built called Bakare Daudu Street in Gbagada has just been tarred.
Last year, there were a lot of Professors, University dons, retired Professors and men of God who read lessons. Why many people attend his church is because of Primate Olorunwo’s prophetic powers and mysterious lifestyle.
There was also a lot of spiritual annointing that preceded the setting up of the church over 50 years ago. Since then, he has grown rew in spiritual power and wisdom and was directed by the Holy Spirit to establish a C & S Church (Aladura) which he did on the 26th November, 1966 at 30, Hughes Avenue, Alagomeji, Yaba in one big sitting room. The Church was named Oke- Igbala C & S Church. He was also directed by the Holy Spirit to stop working with Shell Company, Shell Installation, Apapa which he did in 1968 as an Architect.
He became a full time Prophet of God. He had lots of tribulations as the first church he erected was pulled down mysteriously after 2 years of existence. He was later to find the church on the ground after he returned from a 7 Day Prayer from Olorunkole Mountain in Ibadan. He later moved to another site at 146, Clifford Street, Alagomeji, Yaba in 1968. After this feat, he was ordained an Apostle in 1970, he became a Senior Apostle in 1975, a Most Senior Apostle in 1976 and ultimately a Special Apostle in 1979. The church eventually had to vacate the new site at Clifford Street for a swampy area at Abule-Ijesha, Basua Estate, Off Fola-Agoro Road.
During this time, the church lost many members due to incessant relocation of the church from one location to another. However, there are a few steadfast and loyal members who remained with the church through thick and thin till date. The name of the church was later changed to Olorunwo Cathedral Church of C&S (Inc) in 1970 after a Church General Meeting. Eventually, the present abode was developed, while church activities were held at Fola Agoro, Abule Ijesha, in Lagos. Throughout the period of construction.
Since then, the church has witnessed an era of stability and progress till it came to. the “Promised Land”. The present church was completed through the Grace of God and was dedicated to the Glory of God on the 26th November, 1983. The opening was chaired by late Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola who came with his Editor, the late Dele Giwa.
The church has grown in leaps and bound with branches all over. It was on the same day, the founder was enthroned and ordained as Archbishop, Primate, Spiritual Father and Head of the Church by the C&S Council, at a most solemn ceremony which was presided over by Most Gen. Superintendent C.O.S Benson on behalf of the United C & S Council.
