Can you believe how fast January has gone? Just the other day, we were clicking champagne glasses and cheering on the new year! So as I sit here thinking about the speed at which things change, I am randomly reminded of how fast other things change….things of the vanity kind…like eyebrows!
At the start of the year, you may have promised yourself that you would make more of an effort to look fab daily! Well, the easiest place to start is with perfectly groomed eyebrows, and my preferred way to achieve this is by “threading” them.
Developed in the Middle East and loved all the way in the Western world, threading hair removal has become one of the world’s best, most precise and fastest hair removal techniques.
I learnt to thread in London, UK. It was 2011 and my banking career was well behind me. I had left it in 2009 to pursue a career in makeup full time. Having undergone a successful makeup training programme in Baker Street, London, in 2008, I was now fully immersed in that world but wanted more. One day, I asked the lady who used to thread my own brows if she could teach me. It wasn’t going to be free ofcourse. I paid my pounds, learnt the craft, sharpened my knowledge via an apprenticeship with her, and the rest is history as they say.
The Facts: There are several ways to whip your brows into shape. Threading, waxing, tweezing and blading are just a few. At ShoMya, we do several techniques, but our unique selling point is our precise, professional threading! In a swift and clean movement, a special thread is wrapped around unwanted hairs, and they are lifted right out of your follicles. Sounds horrendous but it is not that painful. The results are so worth it!
No Swelling: Threading gets rids of the finest and smallest hair with ease and doesn’t leave the area extremely swollen or red. Some people with super sensitive skin may experience very minimal swelling but I have been threading for years and rarely come across this.
Definition Like No Other: Threading will give your eyebrows the kind of shape/definition that tweezing and waxing alone can’t. Moreover, threading with a makeup artist gives an even better edge because we have studied eyebrow shapes and create beautiful brows daily!
Quick Removal: Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading removes rows of hair at a time. This is why it should be carried out by experts only. When I thread, it may take about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the density, and current state of my clients’ brows.
Long Lasting: My clients only have to thread once or twice a month. If your hair grows back very fast, you will need to thread every 2 weeks, and if it don’t, then you will need to thread every 3 weeks. How fantastic is that?
Better Hair Quality: Unlike with razor shaping where the hair grows back thick/coarse, threading produces fine hairs. This makes it easier to extract during your next appointment.
Inexpensive: A professional threading appointment can cost anything between N2500 and N3000. My clients get amazing results for just N2500 in our studio. Blading may be cheaper but you will need to do that at least 5 times a month, so the costs eventually stack up!
Works For The Whole Face: Yes! This method isn’t restricted to just the eyebrows. I usually thread anything from the eyebrows to the upper lip, neck, jaw line, cheeks, and entire face for my clients.
Tips: Aloe Vera gels may be used to cool down the area immediately after the procedure is done. You can wear makeup immediately after and carry on with your business as usual.
Go on, give it a try and have a beautiful week!!!
