A convicted murderer serving a life sentence has said that if inmates can have sex in the prison whenever they want, incidents of violence will be reduced to the barest minimum.
The 36-year-old convict argued that “conjugal visits,” whereby inmates can spend time privately with their spouses, would ease violence in jails and prevent further crime.
He also advocated a reform of the prison systems, so that convicts can lead useful lives in case they are eventually released.
He complained that the effect of staff shortages on the inmates’ regime was denying them their “right to change;” warning that anyone could be “our next victims if we’re not getting reformed.”
“We’re going to come out on the street with the same attitude — we don’t want that,” he sermonised.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, Stuart Horner, from Wythenshawe, complained to police that inmates were sharing one-man cells, using buckets as toilets because of sanitation problems, and were missing out on work, education and phone calls to loved ones.
Horner said: “You should have rights for conjugal visits. I have said in long letters to MPs and people in charge it will reduce violence in jail and help rehabilitate.”
“Conjugal rights were the right for your partner to have sex with you privately whilst you are in prison,” he added.
