I was really livid. I honestly did not know which hurt me more, whether it was the fact that I’d found him partying while he had put me in a messy situation that could ruin my life for good, or the fact that I met him in company of another girl! He didn’t even feel bad or remorseful for what he had done to me, he didn’t even think he needed to come look for me and apologise to me, instead, he simply forgot all about me and moved on with another girl.
“See, Rosie, it’s not like that…I’m not that kind of person, I swear, I just don’t know what got into me that fateful day…”
“Please, save that for the birds!” I snapped t him.
“Honest, Rosie, I tried to find you so I could apologise to you for what happened…I just didn’t know how to get you except back in church…”
“And so, why didn’t you look for me in church then?” I fired at him, wondering if he was being truthful.
“The truth is I have been to church in the last couple of weeks, I’ve been busy running errands for my uncle,” he tried to explain. But for some reasons, I didn’t believe a word he was saying. He didn’t look to me to be telling the truth.
“To be honest with you, Bobby, I don’t believe you. And besides, that’s not why I’m here. Something much more serious brought me here.” I’d begun.
“Something much more serious? What could that possibly be?” he’d asked me, his voice suddenly going low.
“When you drugged me weeks ago and raped me, you did not use a condom, did you?” I shot at him.
He was speechless. He wasn’t expecting that kind of question. “Answer me, Bobby, did you?’
“Well, congratulations, you have gotten yourself what you were looking for,” I continued, my eyes blazing with anger as I looked into his eyes.
“What…what exactly are you…what are you talking about, Rosie?” From the way he started to tremble, I could tell he already had n idea the sort of trouble he had gotten himself into.
“I am pregnant for you, Bobby, I am carrying your baby!” I dropped the bomb on him.
For a moment, I was not sure if Bobby heard me. He just stood motionlessly, watching me, his face expressionless. It was as though what I said didn’t make a single sense to him.
“Bobby, did you hear me at all? Or you don’t have anything to say to what I just said?” I’d thrown at him, feeling irritated at his nonchalant attitude.
“Sorry, what did you just say now?” Bobby finally talked. But still, he was saying nonsense.
“What do you mean by, what did I just say? I said I am pregnant for you, or are you suddenly deaf?” I was getting really disgusted right now and really felt like letting all of my anger and frustrations out right there and then.
“Pregnant? But, how? I don’t understand….” He was talking more to himself than to me.
“What do you mean you don’t understand?” I was starting to raise my voice now. “I just told you I’m pregnant for you and you’re standing there and saying nonsense! Is tht all you have to say to the problem at hand?”
“Look, Rosie, I am confused here,” he began to murmur, his face suddenly pale with fear. It was just starting to sink inside his head that he was serious trouble.
“What are you confused about?” I asked him.
“Everything,” he replied promptly, small beads of sweat already forming circles on his forehead. “How can you be pregnant for me? How can you…..”
“Are you alright? Are you mad or something? How can you be asking me such stupid question?” I was practically screaming at him now.
“Please, Rosie, keep your voice down, you’re shouting,” he pleaded.
“Why won’t I shout? Oh, you don’t want your girlfriend inside there to know you have gotten someone pregnant, right? Is that it?”
“No, no, please, Rosie, it’s not about that, please, just keep your voice low, I beg of you… “
“Then stop asking me stupid questions!” I snapped at him.
“Look, I am sorry, its just that this has come to me as a big shock, I’m confused really..” he was speaking to me in whispers. He obviously did not want those inside to know what’s going on between us
“But, see, I still don’t get why you should be confused,” I’d thrown at him with a voice laden with unbridled bitterness. “You invited me over to your house. You drugged my drink, then you raped me. Now that I’m pregnant you say you’re confused. Please, I don’t have time for this nonsense, what are we going to do about this? You have ruined my life, you this idiot, do you know that?” And the tears began to run down my face.
I did not plan to start breaking down in front of him, it just happened that way. The tears just came running down my face. I wanted to intimidate him with my bold and daring countenance, not show him a soft side that could make him think he could play a fast one on me.
“Its okay, Rosie, its okay, please, stop crying…”
“Don’t tell me it’s okay because it’s not okay!” I yelled at him. “I am the one carrying your pregnancy! I am the one that will face the shame and ridicule! I am the one that will probably never go to school again, never go to the university, and you say its okay? It is not okay! What I need you to tell me right now is, what are we going to do about this baby I’m carrying in my womb, that’s all I want to know!”
