The very beautiful and elegant Gbemisola Braimah is one of those pretty fashion icons rocking the social scene. You can’t help but admire her each time you see her, she is the complete definition of beauty and brains and she often turns heads every time she steps out for events and parties.
She was one of the pretty faces that were honoured at the just concluded City People Fashion & Style Award, which took place at Ikeja. She was looking breathtaking and her flawless skin added so much compliment to her looks.
City People’s Senior Showbiz Reporter, BIODUN ALAO had a chat with her, and she talked about how she combines her role as a wife, mother, insurance top shot and fashion icon. She also went on to explain what inspires her fashion sense and how she came about the name Posh Gbemmy. Below are the excerpts.
How do you feel being honoured today?
Okay, first and foremost my name is Gbemisola Braimah a.k.a. Posh Gbemmy. Honestly I feel so honoured, this is actually my second awards from City People. I am happy that people appreciate me and how I step out, all I want to say is Uncle Seye thank you so much, I feel really honoured. I feel so privileged. God bless you thank you so much.
How did you come about the name Posh Gbemmy?
(Laughs!!!) I keep saying this story, almost like every time. What happened was that I and my friends while we were still growing up, most times, when they see me dress up, they are always like oh you are looking so beautiful, you look gorgeous, then I will say now, I am not looking gorgeous, I am looking posh and before I knew what was happening the name got stuck, they start calling me posh, then Posh Gbemmy, that is how I got the name.
Kindly tell us the secret behind this flawless and gorgeous look?
I would say firstly, I would say I take good care of my skin, I am very particular about what I apply on my body and what goes inside of me. I don’t eat anyhow, looking good is a conscious effort, what you put in, is what you will get out. Fine, I don’t eat much, I am not an exercise or diet person but just extremely careful about what goes into my body.
How do you manage being a working-class babe, a wife, mother and the fashion thing together?
Really, it is about passion, I am very passionate about fashion and also passionate about having fun because I work a lot, even at times weakened I work, so anytime I am not working I create time to enjoy myself. Even with that I endeavour to balance everything so that one won’t suffer for another, I work Monday through Friday, and when I have parties at weekend I attend it, I am a Lagos babe, so there is always a party, I go out and have fun, then in all this, I create a special time for my family, they are the topmost priority, they come first in everything and I also try and have fun when it is necessary but I can’t tell you it is easy because at times some parties clash with work, so in everything, I try as much as possible to strike a balance. I am always conscious of everything. My kids are teenagers but I still create time for them. Take for example I was with them all through yesterday, and I have found out that one aspect they lack and suffer and to rectify it might be late and dangerous. There is time for everything so there is no point rushing it. Most ladies you see feel comfortable hanging out here have grown up kids, some of their kids are even married, so be patient and get to that stage, be very careful, don’t drop one for another. My priorities are my family first, then my job then party if there is anyone to attend.
Being with them all day before coming out for this award was important. It is not an easy thing to have a good marriage. Create time for the kids and also work in between also have fun and hang out with friends.
What is your advice for a young lady who wants to work, have a good home and be fashionable as well?
Let me tell you one thing, in as much as I want to look good and also have fun there is time for everything. There was a time I couldn’t do all these, I had to concentrate on my children. If my children need me at home and I have a party to attend, I dedicate my time to my children but they are matured now. Fine they still need attention but not like how it was some years back. There was a time, I spent 24/7 of my time fully on them but they are older now, so, it is important to look for a balance.
