Aside from the monetary gains that would follow, it is very correct to conclude that Juventus splashed the cash to sign Cristiano Ronaldo to help them win the Champions League for the first time since 1996.
Juve have only lifted the coveted trophy twice, in 1985 and 1996, and have lost a record seven finals; the most recent ones being at the mercy of Ronaldo.
Thankfully, the Portuguese star is now on their side and much will be expected of him in the coming days.
As it is well known, Ronaldo is an individual who loves challenges no matter how big they look.
The multiple Balon d’OR winner would be starting his primary assignment with Juve on Wednesday at a familiar ground in Spain away to Valencia.
There would also be extra impetus for Ronaldo having seen his fierce rival, Lionel Messi score a hat trick in Tuesday’s 4-0 drubbing of PSV by Barcelona.
On the surface, Juve’s immediate prospects look bright after they were placed in a manageable group.
Captain Chiellini and co. will tussle with Manchester United, Valencia and Young Boys of Bern.
The clash with United caught the eye instantly. Ronaldo is going ‘home’, and Paul Pogba will see old friends again.
Today’s game will see Joao Cancelo heading back to his former club for the first time since signing for Juve in the summer.
Allegri will likely be starting him as the left-back to give some breathing space to Alex Sandro, with Juan Cuadrado starting as the right-back.
Juve are without Barzagli and De Sciglio. The two have not traveled with the squad to Spain.
Federico Bernardeschi could be starting along with Mario Manzukic and Cristiano Ronaldo in the attack.
Meanwhile, for Valencia, Ezequiel Garay, Francis Coquelin and Geoffrey Kondogbia are out injured.
