Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has cleared the air on disturbing issues of bad roads in Lagos state which have ameliorated into heavy traffic in the state, stating that his administration is working on extensive construction and rehabilitation.
Addressing Lagos residents, at The Platform, annual intellectual symposium organised by Covenant Christian Center, he stated that assumed office four months ago during the raining season and will not regard any form of distortion of construction and rehabilitation process of the roads.
“I assumed office four months ago during the raining season, the issues of traffic is caused by potholes that we are working on day and night, secondly the population of Lagos is large.
What we are doing is working on the transportation system. After the raining season, extensive road construction will start and also rehabilitation of some roads. We will also work to ensure that our rail system is working”
On transportation systems in Lagos state most especially motorbike transportation, he said: “We also understood that the motorbikes are everywhere around the city and we trying to carry everyone along by working on regulations so that we can account for every motorbike rider”.
Meanwhile, also addressing the issue of medical tourism, Sanwo-Olu noted one of the challenges is people keep secret of their health predicament, thus travel out of the country to seek treatment.
“The truth is there are two sides to it. The country needs to have a diagnostic Centre and treatment Centre. People take issues of their health very private and don’t consult. These kinds of people are those who choose to go abroad.
Part of what we have done is speaking with equipments suppliers used abroad so we can have it here too. We also discover that we don’t have enough bio-medical technicians who handle this equipment which is another challenge”,
