Now, you want to go to the House of Reps, to represent Kaduna North, why are you vying for that seat and on which party?
I just realised that at some points in life, you just have to go into politics so that you can also serve the interest of the people better. I did a lot of national assignments in the interest of Nigeria even though we have a country that doesn’t go into records, to assess data base and also check to see what people have done, other wise, people like me, not only me, there are a lot of others who deserve national honours than those who steal Nigeria’s money, and are being awarded national Honors.
People like us who served the country in our struggles for good governance deserve more honours than all politicians being honoured. But we have a country that doesn’t remember people on the basis of history unless you are a governor or minister. A lot of my colleagues who suffered during the dark era till date have not been rehabilitated. Colonel Ajayi who revolted against the then dictatorship was castrated, the case is in court.
My understanding to what government is all about is service to the people, but today you have this sort of people such as councilors, chairmen, or state house of assembly or national assembly members who see themselves as demi god/goddesses, I do not think that Governance has something to do with seeing yourself as a demi god, rather it is making yourself a servant to the society. So, my perspective of what governance is all about is to render service and I think it is worth doing.
I am done with the struggle now I want to empower my people and provide dividends of democracy. I also want to promote deeper unity in the country because at present the unity of this country is being threatened. So, you need people of like minds like me, who are going to be there to also support those who are genuinely there to serve the interest of the people, so that we can, put in better laws and policies as well as advise government when necessary, so that at the end of the day, we can have a country that we can all be proud of.
I want to impact on the people of my make an constituency as they have asked me to submit myself for service and I want to be remembered on the positive side of history. I will be vying for the position under the auspices of PDP, because it is more organised in the sense that they look at Nigeria as their responsibility without differences in ethnicity or religion. Most of us are completely disappointed with APC today.
Do you think you will win?
Yes, I think I will win and I deserve it. But I also understand that power is given by God, so my Own Kind of politics will not be a do or die affair, if I get it, to God be the glory, if I don’t, I know that God has a reason I did not get it and it would be the best for me. I would allow God to take charge of things and I would only do my best, but I have no doubt in my mind, I would win, God willing.
Finally, in all of this, what time do you relax with your family?
I am happy that I have a family who understand me, I have two wives and five kids, one is late. I thank God that I have a family that understands and who are patient with me, I got married to my first wife when I was just 24 years old, she was just 19 years going to 20 years, so she saw all the good and bad side of the struggle.
At some points she was with me when I was picked up by men of the SSS and all kinds of security agencies for disturbances and my second wife lately has come to understand the struggle too. But I have never been picked up for committing a crime or get convicted, they understood and stood by me. They know I am a good father and husband and I commend them for that.
What will you use your last kobo to buy?
I will gladly give my last kobo, to the needy, I cannot bear to see people not having food to eat. My family also understands that I get worried when I don’t have money to give those in need. I am not a social butterfly, I don’t go to clubs, I will rather spend time with my family and the needy around me.
