The name, Shina Peller, needs little or no introduction in the Nigerian social and political scenes. He is a successful businessman and currently a federal lawmaker. Now, he is a member of the 9th Assembly; the Federal House of Representatives, representing the people of Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola Federal Constituency in Oyo State.
Being a man loved by all, his simplicity stands him out and this is part of the reasons many youths not only in Oyo State but also in the South-Western part of Nigeria take him as their role model. Confirming his relevance among the South-West people was the recent Ayedero of Yoruba land title conferred on him by “Iku Baba Yeye”, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
Ever since his inauguration as Ayedero, Hon. Peller has stepped up his fashion sense, making many wonder why he now wears a new look at social gatherings. If you had seen him in the public recently, you would be attracted to his simple but highly in vogue outfits that are matched with a white veil on a white cap making him look more like an Islamic cleric or scholar known as Sheikh.
In a chat with City People’s Reporter, Jamiu Abubakar, Hon. Peller spoke about his new style of dressing and on how best to achieve peaceful coexistence among Nigerians. Below are the excerpts, Enjoy:
“Ayedero of Yorubaland means a promoter of peace and prosperity. So the most important thing for me now is to make sure I promote peace anywhere I go. And that is what is even behind my mode of dressing now. As you see, I want to be seen as someone that’s peaceful and wherever I go to, I want to lead by example by not doing to others what I cannot take. And I believe this is the simplest way to contribute to the peace of this world.
“Without peace, there can never be progress. We must understand that for us to achieve peaceful coexistence among ourselves in Nigeria, we must be tolerant. We must love one another. But on the government’s part, they must ensure that our judicial system is top notched. This is because justice plays an important role in ensuring peace as well.
“My message to the people in Yorubaland is very, very simple. I do not support secession in Nigeria. And I will tell you for a simple fact, even if you think about how we were created, God created land before men and we all know that God peopled the world from just the co-existence of Adam and Eve. And if we all can come from a source; and God created us from sand, we are all going to die and go back to that sand as well, I see no reason to be working to separating ourselves or dividing ourselves. As a Muslim, Anobi Mohammad (SAW) in his last sermon promote unity. And for anybody who is promoting unity, he must not support secession. That’s what I believe even with my religion.
