3 Eminent Nigerians Honoured By CRESCENT University

The Osi of Egbaland, High Chief Olabode Akeem Mustapha was one of the eminent Nigerians recently honoured by Crescent University at its 14th Convocation held in Abeokuta.  Born on 12th March, 1950  in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Chief Bode Mustapha, the 9th Osi of Egbaland has distinguished himself and has had a stellar career in Business and Politics. He has been involved in activities not only to serve his people but to contribute his quota to the development of Egbaland, Ogun State and Nigeria as a committed citizen.

A devout Muslim, with indelible footprints in the course and support of his religion, Chief Bode Mustapha, popularly known among friends and associates as BM can be rightly described as a global citizen, who is vastly travelled and speaks Yoruba, English and German fluently.

Chief Mustapha started his education at Ibadan Grammar School, Ibadan (1962-1966) and later proceeded at Ibadan Technical College, Ibadan (1968-1969). Between 1971 and 1972, he studied at Goethe Institute, Lunenburg West Germany and between 1974-1976 he was at Bilgungs Zentrum Des Einzehandels Springe Kaartardt AG also in Germany where he bagged a first-class in Business, Management & Marketing. In 1976, he capped his degree with a Diploma in Public Relations in Hamburg, Germany. In 1978, he took a course in Financial Management for Non-Financial Executives.

As a carnivorous reader, in 2006, he enrolled at the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN for Criminology and Security Studies, and graduated with a Second Class Upper. He also bagged two Master’s degrees, in Business Administration and Peace and Conflict Resolution, from the same insttution. In 2008, Chief Bode Mustapha was registered as Accelerated member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of Nigeria CIMA. He was conferred as an  Associate ofthe Institute in 2009 and a Fellow in 2012.  Chief Bode Mustapha is also a memberofthe Institute of Directors. A fitness enthusiast, he is an active member of Abeokuta Golf Club, IBB Golf Club Abuja, Ibadan Golf Club and a life member of Ikoyi Club 1938, where he is also an ardent Golfer among others. His hobbies are reading and playing Golf.

Hon. High Chief Olabode Akeem Mustapha’s political career that spans over 41 years started in 1981 and by 1983, he was appointed the Publicity Coordinator, South West Zone Presidential Campaign Committee of President Shehu Shagari in the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

During the Military Era, he was a member of the PSP and also a member of the Shehu Musa Y’Adua political family. He was a foundation member of UNP that later merged withthe UNCtoform UNCP. Hon. High Chief Mustapha was forced into exile in 1997 because of his principled stand against certain actions of Late Gen. Sanni Abacha and was forthat reason implicated in the purported Gen. Diya coup. Upon his return from exile in 1998, he joined the Alliance for Democracy as a foundation member and subsequently won election into the House of Representative in 1999 under the platform ofthe same party. He joined the PDP in 2003 and became the National Auditor ofthe Party in 2012 till 2014. He was also an active member of APC and was Director General for Sen. Ibikunle Amosun’s Governorship Campaign in 2015 and actively participated in the Primaries of the APC in 2019 and subsequent election victory of His Exellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR as Governor of Ogun State in 2019.

High Chief Bode Mustapha, who presently sits on the Board of several companies, has previously served as Chairman and Board Member of several state and federal government boards in the past. He is happily married to a Solicitor and blessed with children. He got an award of Doctor of Science (DSc Honoris Causa) Political Science and International Studies of Crescent University.

CHIEF MURTALA ADEBAYO AKANDE

Chief Murtala Adebayo Akande is another respected man of means. He was born on the 8th of July 1939 into the family of Chief (Honourable) Agboola Sanusi Akande of the Adelakun Baaji family in Isale-Ijebu, lbadan. He began his primary education in 1947 when he: was enrolled at the Olubadan Native Authority School, Ibadan. He proceeded to the Ibadan Grammar School, in 1954 for his secondary education, and while there, he adopted the motto of his alma mater DEO ET PATRIRE” which mean’ “for God and my fatherland” as his personal guiding principle.

On December 12,1959, just a day after he left secondary school, Young Bayo Akande left Nigeria for London where he attended the North Western Polytechnic from 1959 to 1960, School of Legal Education in London, 1961 to 1963, he was subsequent! admitted as a member ofthe Honorable Society of InnerTemple.

In 1963, Bayo Akande returned to Nigeria where he attended the Nigerian Law School from September to December of the same year, In January 1964 he was enrolled as a member of the English Bar as a barrister and a solicitor of the Suprerme Court of Nigeria.

Having been called to bar, young lawyer Akande joined the chambers of Chief A. M Akinloye & Co in Ibadan.ln 1965, he established his own chambers, which he name: Adebayo Akande & Co., also in Ibadan. It is important to note that Ibadan at that time was the breeding ground for the best legal brains of that era. In 1969, Chief Akande moved his legal practice to Lagos; it was this decision that gave him the privilege to take advantage of several business opportunities that were opening up around him.

The indigenization decree of 1972 and 1978 created the environment for his adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit to thrive. It was in this sameentrepreneurship spirit that he went on to establish Oluyole Holdings Limited, ITN (Independent Telephone Network), which was later sold to Visafone and Midlands Communications Limited and which was later licensed to operate cable satellite television and Splashfm radio, the first independent Private radio station in Ibadan,

(2007), Lagelu FM radio, the first indigenous private radio station in Ibadan (2016), 120 rooms Adebayo Akande Hall, University of Ibadan, West Midlands CBT Limited. In addition to this, he has invested substantially in properties and banking. Chief Akande made a brief foray into unpredictable waters of the Nigerian politics, having been an active member of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN) from 1979 to 1983, he contested in the primaries forthe state’s governorship seat in 1983, but the return of the military marked the end of romance in politics as he returned to his practice and business.

A man committed to his community, Chief Akande was appointed the Mogaji of Akande Adelakun family in 1997 and in the year 2000, the chieftaincy title of Jagunmolu of Ibadanland was conferred on him. He is the present EKAARUN Olubadan of Ibadanland.

This hilarious son of the soil has been honored with so many awards.

His hobbies include listening to music and gardening; He has traveled widely to many countries in the world including all European countries and Caribbean Islands. Chief Murtala Adebayo Akande is happily married with children and grand children. Chief Murtala Adebayo Akande got an award of Doctor of Science (DSc Business Administration of Crescent University, Abeokuta.

MRS TAMRAMAT MOSUN BELO-OLUSOGA

Hajia Tamramat Mosun Belo-Olusoga, popularly known as Aunty Mo is the Lead Consultant/Chief Executive Officer of The KRC (Knowledge and Resource Centre) Limited, a world class services provider with specialty focus on Credit Training. She was also honoured with a doctorate degree.

Mo holds a B.Se. degree in Economics from University of Ibadan, graduating with a Second Class Upper Degree and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.

She began her professional odyssey as a Trainee Accountant with the then Messrs Coopers and Lybrand (Chartered Accountants) in 1980. She qualified as a Charter Accountant in 1983 winning the First Place and the Society of Women Accountar of Nigeria (SWAN) Awards in the qualifying professional examinations. Subsequently moved to the then Continental Merchant Bank Limited towards the end of1986 in a bid to change hercareerto Banking.

Aunty Mo joined a leading financial brand, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc as a pioneer St. in 1990 where she gained robust experience heading the major core banking group including Investment, Corporate and Commercial Banking, Transaction Service Risk Management and Settlement (Domestic and International Operations) Groups. She retired as Executive Director/Head of the Bank’s South West Division responsible for all marketing operations within region.

Hajia Tamramat has a record of firsts, the first female Executive Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, the first female Director of Access Bank, first female Director of Premium Pensions Limited, first African Director, Global Alliance for Women in Banking, first female Chairman of Access Bank and first female Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Olabisi Onabanjo University. During her tenure as Chairman, Access Bank recorded unprecedented growth in key parameters which has seen it emerged as Nigeria’s number one bank in several key performance indices and Africa’s largest bank by customer size. She was also the first Co-Chair of the Nigerian Chapter, Women Corporate Directors (WCD).

Mo has attended several local and international training programs during the course of her career. She is a product of some of the world’s prestigious Business Schools including IMD, Harvard, Kellogg, Columbia, Chicago Booth and INSEAD. She is the past Chairman of the Equipment and Leasing Association of Nigeria, Acting MD, Trust Bank of Africa and sits on the Board of a number of companies. Mo is passionate about knowledge sharing, personal and professional grooming and the quest to transform children into responsible, socially responsive and culturally balanced young adults. This has led to the founding of City of Knowledge Academy as a vehicle to achieve this vision.

The contributions of HajiaTamramat Mosun Belo-Olusoga in the educational and religious sectors are legendary. Apart from being the Founder of one of the best Secondary Schools in Nigeria, City of Knowledge Academy, Ijebu Ode, she has impacted significantly in the lives of many youths that would have ended up not having formal education. With the. support of friends, over a third of the student population enjoy scholarships which are specifically for indigent students.

Hajia Tamramat Mosun Belo-Olusoga is a proud member of the Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria and her late father Alhaji Mubasir Akanji Belo was the Chairman of Ebute Metta Branch. In recognition of her contribution to the Society, she was given a National Award in 2015. As a supporter of both Islam and education, Hajia Tamramat donated on behalf of her Foundation, The Fruit of God’s Mercy Foundation, the Mubasir and Basirat College Building in memory of her parents to Summit University, Offa. The Foundation also donated the recently commissioned state of the art mosque, As Sujood Mosque, to the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye which has the capacity to accommodate over 1,000 worshippers during Jummah service.

This Amazon, a captain of Nigeria’s financial industry, an esteemed philanthropist and a model of Islam, Hajia Tamramat Mosun Belo-Olusoga got an award of Doctor of Science (DSc Honoris Causa) Finance of Crescent University.
