Youths of ruling All Progressives Congress, APC Ojodu LCDA, Ward ‘A’ took to the streets on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 to protest against alleged imposition of councillorship candidates in the forth coming local council and government elections.
Reports reaching the media say that it had earlier been agreed by members and leaders of the party in the ward that the party’s flag bearer would be determined by primary elections.
However, information surfacing from a leader of the party in the ward who pleaded anonymity said that some members of the leadership have agreed to select its flag bearer by consensus.
One of the protesters who spoke to news men while the protest was ongoing said “this party is known to be democratic and we say no to god-fatherism”.
“Our leaders have gone to ahead to determine how the party’s flag bearer would be decided, there was a by election between sixteen leaders and twelve voted for primaries while four voted against it.”
“I wonder what kind of democracy goes against the wish of the people.”
We are not asking for much, all we are saying is that we want the party’s flag bearer to be determined by the people and not by imposition,” he concluded.
The APC state chairman in Lagos, Mr Henry Ololade Ajomale who received the protesters in his office located along Acme road, Ikeja while addressing the crowd through his publicity secretary, Mr Abiodun Salami said “your voice has been hear and I assure you that prompt action would be taken to make sure that justice prevail.”
“There are two ways to determine party’s flag bearer, it is either through primaries or consensus. But if the leadership of Ward “A” have decided to go to primaries through by-election, then I see no reason why the election should not be respected.”
“The state chairman sent me here to attend to you, he has heard your grievances but he wants you to put in black and white so that it can be documented and then prompt action will be taken.”
“I appreciate the fact that you are well behaved and comported, I’m proud to associate with these learned youths and I belong to your generation. Be sure that we shall not allow injustice to prevail in your ward.” He assured.
