Hon Yunusa Abubakar, a lawmaker representing Gombe, had stated that Buhari’s opposing recommendation to the tenure elongation as proposed by the national working committee, is only the position of the minority and does not reflect the stand of party majority.
He made this known during a live interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
President Buhari, had stated at the last National Executive Council Meeting held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, that the decision to extend the term of service of key office holder within the part contravenes the provision of the constitution and therefore should not be allowed to stand.
According to Hon. Abubarkar, President Buhari’s statement was only a suggestion which cannot hold water as of now.
He added that both Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President cannot speak on behalf of the NEC.
Recall that Asiwaju has said in a press released that “The President has spoken”, stating that Mr President has put the collective interest and integrity of the part, APC into consideration by opposing the tenure elongation plan, orchestrated by the National Working Committee.
