If you meet Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the new Afenifere leader for the first time, you won’t believe he is 92,going on to 93,in a few weeks time. This is because he looks good for his age.He is still fit and strong and does not show any sign of some one who is in his 90s.He is still hale and hearty.
When Citypeople visited him last Tuesday we met an elder statesman who is still very committed to making Nigeria great again. For 3 hours,he engaged us in a heart to heart discussion about Nigeria and why the youths must continue to speak to power.”If you guys don’t constantly engage those in power you will continue to suffer”,he declared.”When we were your age we lived a life of activism, and up till now,I am still actively involved in the quest to return Nigeria back to the path of stability, progress and development.
“I never knew Nigeria could degenerate to this abysmal level.Things are really bad. That is why we have been telling Pres Buhari not to let Nigeria become a failed state. We have told him over and over again, the only way out for us is Restructuring. We have to restructure Now.”
At 92,Chief Adebanjo says he is not ready to slow down.”I can’t slow down when the country is in turmoil, with killings everywhere and the Fulanisation of Nigeria by Buhari.Other parts are being marginalised,”he explained.
What is the secret of his healthy and robust look at 92,we asked.”Contentment is No 1.I don’t envy anybody.I don’t go after acquisition of wealth and properties.Apart from this my house and the one in my town,I don’t have any other house anywhere.
“I eat healthy.I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.I sleep well. I sleep soundly and I sleep till 12 noon every day.I don’t joke with my exercise.I walk every day for at least 30 minutes.I take all the natural herbs the body needs and I am happy I enjoy good health. I enjoy the Grace of God. I don’t do anything special.”
