The Awolowo family is in the news again, as one of the children of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo is set to celebrate her 70th birthday. She is Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu, the ever delectable and pretty daughter of late Awo. In his lifetime, late Chief Obafemi Awolowo the former Premier of Western Region between 1954 and 1960, had 5 children made up of 2 boys and 3 ladies. Over the years, the Awolowo family had lost the matriach of the family Mama HID Awolowo and 3 members of the family, namely: Segun Awolowo (Snr), Wole Awolowo and Mrs. Soyode, leaving 2 of late Awo’s children alive. They are Mrs. Tola Oyediran and Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu.
The big news is that Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu is 70. She is a U.K. trained Medical Doctor and a former diplomat. She is the the youngest daughter of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Mama HID Awolowo. She is a former Ambassador of Nigeria to Holland.
She is also the Executive Director of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation. Very cerebral. She has organised a number of seminars and academic sessions to continue to propagate Awos legacies. Recall that Queen Elizabeth II was presented flowers on different occasions during her first visit to Nigeria in 1956. One of the girls who presented flowers to the Queen then was young Miss Tokunbo Awolowo (now Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu), the daughter of Chief Obafemi Awolowo she was then a schoolgirl.
