Bishop (Prof.) Stephen Tunde Victor Adegbite needs little introduction. He is always in the news, making his views known on national issues. He is many thing rolled into one. He is the Bishop of the Diocese of Ikeja.

He is the Chairman of CAN Lagos State.

He is also the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC).

A few weeks back, when City People requested for a Special interview with him he accepted. But getting an appropriate appointment was a big problem. This is because of Bishop Adegbite’s rigorous job schedule. His new role as ES of Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission takes him to Abuja every week. He usually leaves by first flight every Monday morning and by 9am he is at his desk in Abuja working. And by Wednesday he is on his way back to Lagos. It is a tedious schedule.

That he is a hardworking man shows, because once he is back in Lagos he usually goes into long meetings with representatives of all the various bodies he belongs to. He is a man of ideas so he enjoys brainstorming sessions.

When City People finally had the interview with him last Friday morning, he was billed about the same time to go into yet another meeting inside his Boardroom. Once he finished with City People, he jumped up off he went.

Interestingly, many people don’t know the type of person this brilliant man is.

He is a 1st Class material. He was the best in school.

He is an activist. He has been actively involved in Politics since his school days in the university. He is also a non-confirmist. He loves CHANGE. He believes CHANGE is inevitable. Lets tell you more.

Bishop (Professor) Stephen Tunde Victor Adegbite was born on the 17th August, 1968 in Oyo State. He attended Fiditi Grammar School, Fiditi from 1979 – 1985 thereafter he proceeded to enrol at the Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan from 1988 – 1991 where he attained a Diploma in Theology and a Diploma in Religious Studies before proceeding to the University of Ibadan in 1992 – 1995 where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Religious Studies) Hons. He holds a Master of Arts (Ethics) 1998, a Ph.D from the prestigious University of Ibadan in January 2022, and was awarded honorary Professor in Humanitarianism by the Heart Bible International University, United States of America.

He attended the CORAT in Kenya skillful Management for Church Administrators in 2008.

Management Course for Presbyters in ASCON in Badagry, Lagos State Nigeria for four consecutive times in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2016, respectively. He is an alumnus of the Strategic Management Course in Huston Texas – United States of America in 2013 and the Strategic Management Course in Huston Texas United States of America in 2015.

Bishop (Professor) Adegbite has received several awards for his accomplishments over the years. He was awarded the Best Student in English Language Immanuel College of Theology in 1991; Best Student in Department of Religious Studies, University of Ibadan in 1996 Set; Best Post Graduate Student University of Ibadan in 1998 Set; and 100 Awards from various Christian Bodies and Organizations.

Coupled with the above, he has held several positions such as the Synod Secretary Trinity Church Council from 1996 – 2001; Synod Secretary Lagos Diocese from 2001 – 2009; was the Chairman of City-Wide Crusade Lagos Diocese in 2000. He was the Lay Preachers Coordinator Archdiocese of Lagos from 2001 – 2009; Presbyter Araromi Circuit; Presbyter Wasley Cathedral Olowogbowo, Lagos during whose time the church was built. He was a Senior Lecturer at the Methodist Theological Institute Sagamu from 2009 – 2012. He was the Vice-Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria Lagos State (2012 – 2014). He was also a former Member, Board of Governors of Igbobi College Lagos from (2009 – 2013). He was the Secretary Electoral College for the 2016 CAN.

He served as the Proto-Presbyter, Methodist Church of the Trinity, Tinubu, Lagos (2012 – 2015). He was the former Chairman, Christian Council of Nigeria Lagos State. He was also former Treasurer, Christian Association of Nigeria Lagos State. He was a Member of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrim’s Welfare Board, and a Member Board of Governors Immanuel College of Theology Ibadan. Co-chair Inter-Faith Committee Lagos State (NIREC). He is the Bishop of the Diocese of Ikeja and the Chairman of CAN Lagos State. He is also the Chairman Christian Council of Nigeria, Southwest and a Member of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC).

He is the current supervising Bishop for Igbobi College, Lagos representing the Methodist Church Nigeria. Bishop (Professor) Stephen Adegbite, has travelled to Jerusalem leading Christians both in Lagos and Nigeria for the past 25 years. He has also traveled to other countries including the United States of America, Sweden, Germany, Britain, Greece, Rome, Dubai, Kenya, Ethiopia to mention just few.

He was married to Mrs. Funmilayo Adetifewa Adegbite of blessed memory. He has since re-married to Princess Adewunmi Fadeke Adegbite and the marriage is blessed with four loving children, Tayo, Tope, Taiwo and Kehinde.
