Comfort Ogundipe, a young creative Fashion Designer, has said that the idleness brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic had an unexpected benefit, stating that it has influenced her creativity in fashion design.
Ogundipe stated that, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which has brought the world to a standstill, many people have been forced to stay indoors and engage in creative pursuits to pass the time.
According to her, she never thought the COVID-19 lockdown could actually help her tap into her fashion creativity.
“With nothing much to do, I have had the time to reflect, brainstorm, and work on my craft; it’s been a blessing in disguise, really.
“To be honest, I was initially worried when the government announced the lockdown, but as the days went by, I found myself with more time to think, experiment, and create.
It’s like the stillness has awakened a new level of creativity in me,” she said.
Ogundipe said that the passion drove her into the fashion industry, by using the extra time to design new collections, work on her brand, and even explore new business opportunities.
“I’m planning to take my brand global and I believe that with the right strategy, quality products, and a strong online presence, we can make a mark in the international fashion scene,” she added.
The fashion designer said that her story was not unique as many Nigerian fashion designers were using the pandemic as an opportunity to rethink their strategies, invest in digital marketing, and create new products that cater for the changing needs of consumers.
“I was hopeful then that the pandemic would soon be behind us.
“But one thing was certain – 1 per cent never takes my creativity for granted again. I came out of that stronger and more innovative,” she said.
