Ogun state leading political party, African Democratic Congress, ADC has advised party loyalists and supporters to remain steadfast in the cause of voting out treasury looters at the forthcoming gubernatorial election, billed to hold on Saturday, March 9, 2019, across major states of Nigeria, despite the defection of some of the party members to other parties.
The ADC media committee, in a statement released on Monday, March 4, 2019, stated that Deji Ashiru’s defection to the APC after he lost woefully at the just concluded senatorial election was good for democracy, adding that the party was already aware that Deji Ashiru would leave ADC after the senatorial elections.
The party maintained that the defeated senatorial candidate is of little or no significance to the party and also not a threat to Gboyega Nasir Isiaka in the 2019 gubernatorial election.
The statement described Deji Ashiru as a serial defector, saying no party faithful will leave the party with him.
“While we would ordinarily not want to dignify the defectors and their paymasters with a response, we felt the need to unearth their puerile, senseless and deliberate act of peddling messages about our dear party, ADC.
“It is either their paymaster is so clueless to have advised them to decamp under empty and void promises or the perpetrators decided to be overzealous”, the statement said.
“ADC remains unbending and optimistic to save Ogun people from the clutches of treasury looters and put our dear state back on the path of progress and development.
“ADC has been battling and navigating these mischief-makers since inception, and comprises men and women of vision who share common purpose.
“The decampees, after a monumental loss at the poll, have also refused to come to terms that ADC has come to stay with a creative, passionate and dogged political team that has seen the and survived even the worst operational challenges in the state.
“We, therefore, wish to reassure our teeming party followers and supporters that their mandate remains top-priority to us at ADC and our unwavering adherence to civil sanity and best political practices remain intact.
“Our party has shown massive commitment and contributed immensely to ensure that victory is ours come Saturday, March 8, 2019, and our dear son, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, GNI will become the next Governor,”, the statement cocnluded
