On Wednesday, 13th April, 2022, the home of Otunba Funsho Iteola Ajayi was adorned to celebrate and give thanks to God for the life of Otunba Funsho as he celebrated his 84th birthday.
As soon as the sun came up, Purple Orchard and her crew set up the compound to fit the celebration. It was set to be a breakfast and lunch affair, therefore, there were lots of meals readily set on display. The beautiful sitting room of Otunba Funsho Iteola Ajayi was not left out as props and lights were set at his chair, while a beautiful birthday cake sat on his table. Immediately the traditional music group beat their drums, Otunba Funsho Iteola Ajayi was seen strolling down from his room, dressed in a white flowing agbada, accompanied with a broad smile on his face. He immediately went into dancing as his wife and other family members joined him. Shortly after, he was seated on his chair beaming with a smile. Soon, praise and worship broke out among the family members and guests present after which Pastor Samson Ayorinde, the General Overseer of the World Evangelism Bible Church, stepped in to lead the guests in prayer.
Pastor Samon then took to the book of Psalms to share a brief word of God before leading testimonies recounting on God’s mercies in the life of the celebrant and his wife. Otunba Funsho then took the time to talk about his trying times and the good times, leaving words of advice for all present. Read on;
“Today is my happiest day, I would have loved to speak about an hour ago when my eyes were dry. But I thank God for giving me a good wife and surrounding me with good people. Please, you don’t need to steal to be rich because if you are good, you will be rich by the grace of God.
I was born by a farmer, I never saw Lagos until I left secondary school and when I got to Lagos, I started. I went to Oluwa College from there to Northern Polytechnic. At the Northern Polytechnic, I performed very well and they gave me a medal and I was recommended to the Nigerian government. The Nigerian government took me and I enjoyed working hard. You only need to work hard, you don’t need to spend your money on clothes or things that cannot improve your life. Spend on things that will improve your life because that should be your target. Those who know me know that I worked with the people who matter in the Army. Murtala Muhammed was my direct boss, and I went to my corps some days ago, where I was well received. They even suggested doing a parade here for me, but I refused because I did not want people to know I was once a soldier.
This is because every soldier to a civilian is a thief. My three good friends General Murtala Muhammed, Raji Rasaki and Oladipupo Diya. The day my three good friends, General Murtala Muhammed (my boss), Oladipupo Diya and Raji Rasaki were shot I wept. I was asked why I was crying and I said that I had lost good friends. As I said if you were good make sure you are good if you learn anything to make sure you perform well in it.
You cannot ask me anything about my house that I do not know because electrical is my first life. May God bless you all. I am a happy man, some of my bosom friends are not here to share a few testimonies. When I went to a British farm, they said that if I was allowed to leave then a golden opportunity would be lost. I did not work for the government then, but with this, the government took me from the farm to work with them. I am grateful and I thank you. This was put together by my wife and I am very grateful to her. She knows my policy. She makes sure I have my breakfast, lunch and dinner even if we quarrel. With all this, I am grateful and God bless you”.
At that point, his wife, Oloori Yinka Ajayi, also took the platform to share her testimony. She said: “I thank God for the lives of my husband and members of his family. Just recently, I went to one of the best hospitals in Nigeria. I should have had the test I went there for in America, but I could not wait.
I went to the doctor because I was feeling somehow. The doctor referred me to another hospital to run a test. I entered the room and was placed under the machine and everything shut down. It was a mammogram test. Women will know the test. I remember before leaving for the hospital, I prayed even at the gate of my house I was praying. When I got to the hospital, while waiting, I started praying. They tested and during the test, the machine shut down. I was actually pulled out of the machine. After some prayers, I went back for the test and everything went well including the result, I give God all the glory.
