In the public opinion survey conducted by me on Nigerian artistes and published in my column, “IT’S WHAT’S HAPPENING BY ‘LEKAN ALABI” in the Sunday Sketch newspaper issue on 29th December 1974, Akwette music star, Professor Victor Uwaifo, MON, alias “GUITAR BOY”, was adjudged Nigeria’s most hardworking artiste. And truly, he was, till he died in his hometown, Bènin, Edo State, last month, aged 80. May his creative soul rest in peace. Amen.
From his humble graphic artiste position at the Nigerian Television, Victoria Island, Lagos in the 1960s, after graduating as the best graphic arts student of the Yaba Technical College, Lagos, Victor Uwaifo burst into the musical space with his monster hit, “GUITAR BOY” and followed up with the gold disc award-winning, “JOROMI”.
He did not stop in his creative track until he built an incredible chart of hits and sculptures.
