The executive governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde’s background and grass to grace story is an open secret. There is almost nothing to be said again about his humble background and how he made it to the top in his career as an engineer. The story is everywhere. Even those who have never come across him must have heard one or two things about his perseverance, doggedness and hard work and his success story. But not many people really know much about his private and love life. He loves to keep his private life private and deal with issues pertaining to his family in public succinctly.
Not many people also know that as stubborn as Gov. Seyi Makinde is said to be, he has his soft spot. He is an extremely humble and down-to-earth family man. He has a soft spot for his wife and family.
Those who are close to the Makindes can testify to the fact that Engr. Seyi Makinde doesn’t joke with his wife. Despite being a politician, Governor Makinde has very few friends, he keeps his circle very slim. His beautiful wife, Engr. Tamunominini is his best friend.
Their love story is a very interesting one, and theirs is like a marriage made in heaven. Makinde and Tamunominini, we exclusively gathered, met and fell in love with each other over 30 years ago. The meeting happened when Governor Makinde was observing the mandatory one-year youth corp service in Portharcourt sometime in 1990. He was young and fresh from the university then. He graduated from UNILAG at 23. He served at Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). They were later to court for seven years before getting married. Since then, it has been from glory to glory for Makinde and his wife. Their love has kept waxing stronger. They have also been able to build an empire and a strong family.
Apart from being husband and wife, so close is Makinde and his wife that they discuss practically everything. They are gist partners. They are loving and adorable couple. No wonder when they wanted to start having children, it was deliberated upon, as revealed by Governor himself in an interview with City People. While Makinde wanted just a child, the wife voted for two. But interestingly, the story changed when their first two children were girls. The wife wanted more, particularly a male child.
According to Gov. Makinde, he had to start reading all kinds of books on how to make a male child. Guess what? The magic worked as they eventually had a male child. That is how close Makinde and his wife are. They have become role models for young couples. They are a couple worthy of emulation, especially in this season of love and Valentine’s Day celebration.
