Olasumbo Danmole is a very beautiful lady who is doing so well in her events business. She is a great events planner and a good Caterer. And interestingly, she combines both roles creditably. They are complementary roles. They are interwoven. No wonder many prefer to call her to plan how they want their event to look. With Olasumbo, once you brief her, you can go to sleep. She and her team at Ladara will give you the very best.
She has a long list of events she has handled over the last few years. They are impressive. But since 2020, when the COVID-19 lockdown came, her services have been in high demand. She also handles catering. She provides delicious delicacies and her service is 2nd to none. She does home cooking. She also handles party catering. And she is a master of both worlds.
Olasumbo who is the CEO of Ladara Empire & Events studied English at UNILAG and also has a Diploma in Investigative Journalism from NIJ. She is a single mum of 4 beautiful children. And she told City People that asides from being an events planner, she is also a serial entrepreneur. “I am into Catering, I cook for people and I am also into planning events, and any other form of legitimate business that can bring in money and help my society”, she explained.
She has been doing events for how long we asked her. “I have been into it from school in UNILAG. Back then,” she revealed, “I used to help my classmates. Whenever they have birthday parties, I will collect money from them to go and buy what they want from Mr Biggs. That was what we had then. I will bake the cake. I started that way. Then, we didn’t have a lot of event planners around. So, I kept working towards becoming an events planner for people around me, becoming one of the biggest in town”. “But counting from when I took to doing events on a large scale, it is almost 10 years now, that I have been in this business.”
How has it been? How is the business? What has been her experience? “It has been interesting,” she explained. “When I started off, I started from my children’s school in 2012. It is owned by an Irish woman, Mrs Onimole. I happened to be one of the Executives. From time to time, they had things to do. They would always want to train their teachers, train their executives, as well as their parents. As soon as they come up with it, I will say I can do these things and before you know it, they will leave it to me to do. They will get results. And I started doing more. At a point, somebody said why are you always doing free jobs? Why don’t you set up a business, and start doing it for a fee? I did just that. The first few years were very tough years. Maybe, I will get a job in a year or if I am lucky I will get 2 jobs. At a point, I packed it up and I said you know what…I am done. 4 years after, I packed it up, a friend called me and said it was her mum’s birthday and she just wanted to see what I could do. And that was how I came back. Things changed in 2020/2021 for me. The 2 years was actually a good year for me. I had jobs back to back. It was the COVID-19 Lockdown that helped my business. There was demand. In between COVID I was doing strictly Catering. I was cooking for people. I do Catering. I was cooking food, I was supplying foodstuff for people who couldn’t go out, I was shopping for people. I was practically an essential worker, during COVID. And shortly, after Covid, the 1st job I got was with ADRON Homes, when the wife of ADRON boss, buried her dad in Owo. I practically coordinated the event, from the beginning to the end. And it was a huge one. I was in Owo for about 4 days. And it was a huge one. When I got back to Lagos somebody called me and I said I met you in Owo and took your number, I want to plan a burial for a family but they won’t be in Nigeria. You will have to act as the Event Planner, act as the Omo Oloku. It was scary, but I did it. I can say 2021 was my best year as an Events Planner. It was awesome.”
