‘How King Sunny Predicted I will Be Greater Than Him’ – Omoba & De Jumbo Beats Reveals

by Reporter

African Juju Gospel maestro Omoba and De Jumbo Beat, is no longer a new name in the entertainment industry as he had been referred to as the idol ‘du jour,’ by the media with every accolade possible. He’s been compared to our dear king of Juju, King Sunny Ade.

He was recently commended by former Minister OF Information, Professor Jerry Gana as the next King Sunny Ade after watching him perform at the wedding of Abuja-based socialites Moris and Adaobi wedding at Space and Function Wuse 2.

Omoba visited City People Corporate office recently where he talked about his next album launch, and his relationship with the King of Juju, King Sunny Ade…

Enjoy excerpts…

Omoba, what have you been up to?

We are cooking something good for our fans. We intended to release the album this December but sue to some challenges, we have postponed the album to March 2019 and we also want to organize a concert that will go with the album launch. We are already in talks with King Sunny Ade and Fuji maestro, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and some other A-list artist. We believe city people will also come to package the event. The event shall hold in Abuja.

Whats is the title of the Album?

(Laughs)..thats the suspense..let’s keep our fingers crossed on that. But we assure you that this will be vry different from the one you have been enjoying. This will be better no doubt.

We are collaborating with the popular Adegbodu Twins and we are working on something big. We are also in talk with Mega 99’, and we believe our collabo will also fly.

How has family life been?

We give God the glory for the wonderful woman in my life. The journey so far has been interesting.

How have you been coping with female fans?

(Laughs).we thank God. You know women are the ones who we appeal mostly to. They are like the basis of the market. So they are always respected and adored. You know some of our female fans might get above board, but we thank God for wisdom. In all, our female fans have been wonderful.

How many albums have you done so far?

I have 3 albums now. And the coming one will be the 4th one. And we are praying that, it will be the album that will finally shoot us to limelight beyond Abuja, Lagos, and Nigeria. We hope to go international with our next album and we pray that God will bless this one.

What is your relationship with other artists in the industry?

Wonderful, I have a relationship with almost all of them: Adegbodu twins are very wonderful people. Not only Adegbodu, Femi Solar is my friend and many more that I can recall for now.

Any challenge in the live band sector of the industry?

Our major challenges are hip-hop artists and DJs, if you are invited to perform at an event now, especially weddings, they will call you to come and perform and they will call DJ. The DJ will be distracting while the band is playing. I don’t have much problem with it though, because my type of music allows me to switch to all genre.

But the beauty of our culture is enmeshed in live play; where names will be mentioned and people will come out to spray money. It’s always a beautiful moment. You can’t compare DJ will live band. Real music artists are seen live on stage. Hiphop artists can fine-tune their errors in the studios but it is not the same as Live band.

What is the relationship between you and King Sunny Ade?

He’s like a father to me. He advises me most times we talk and he supports me in every way. I have also learnt a lot from him: humility, kindness, stage control, dance steps, I can’t even mention all.. he’s such a humble and kind man.

The first time I met him, I prostrated and greeted him, he just pulled me up and hugged me and began to pray. He has been in touch ever since. Most times he texts and pray that I will be greater than him.

The thing is people are beginning to see the traits of KSA in me.

What do you have to say to your fans?

Yes. I want to tell them something big is coming in the city of Abuja, King Sunny Ade, Otunba Alabi Pasuma and a whole lot of other A-lis artist will be there. I want my fans to watch out as it promises to be wonderful. The date and venue will be communicated soon. City people will also be there live.
