Thursday, 3rd day of November, 2022 was a special one for LSDPC. It was a day of celebration for the Management and members of staff of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC). It was the main day set aside for the celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary.
LSDPC is no doubt a major player in the real estate industry. The corporation has come a long way in providing affordable housing for many Lagosians. It is one of the foremost housing providers in Nigeria. It has an unprecedented track record in the industry. Successive governors in Lagos had many of their success stories in terms of housing delivery tied to LSDPC.
So, celebrating the Golden jubilee of a great organisation like LSDPC in a big way is well deserving. The corporation under its present Managing Director/CEO, Honourable Ayo Joseph therefore invited all the who-is-who in the Built industry to join them in the celebration.
The anniversary was held for 4 days. Activities marking the great occasion started on November 1st, 2022 and ended on November 4, 2022. Programmes held within this period include: a collaborative International Conference and Exhibition tagged- Africa 2022. This was a massive event held for 3 days; from the 1st – to 3rd of November, 2022.
The third day of the conference was for a special event; a Symposium to celebrate LSDPC’s 50 years of Housing Delivery in Lagos State. The symposium was held at Landmark Event Centre, a highly classy event centre which is located at Plot 2/3, Water Corporation Drive, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Theme for the symposium was “Unfolding Arms to Join Hands: Moving the Lagos Property Market Forward” as the President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Tpl. Toyin Ayinde and the Chairman, Lagos Building Investment Company, Mr. Hakeem Ogunniran did justice to the subject of discussion.
The earlier part of the occasion saw the hall almost filled to its brim with top dignitaries, guests and well-meaning Nigerians who trooped in to join members of staff and management in the celebration of the golden jubilee of LSDPC. The entire programme was anchored by ace presenter, Bukola Kukoyi.
The ceremony was also graced by Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. He came to identify with the corporation, its Staff and Management. He was a former MD/CEO of the corporation between 2016 and 2018. He was among the success stories of LSDPC, as his regime saw lots of transformations in the corporation.
The present MD/CEO gave his Welcome Address where he expressed fullness of joy celebrating the corporation’s 50th anniversary in his regime. He dwelled more on the numerous achievements of LSDPC since inception. He however gave insight on the many things the corporation is doing to keep flying high.
The governor during his speech gave a lot of positive remarks about corporations over the years. He saluted past heroes of the corporation and went ahead to charge present management and staff to be dedicated and diligent at work so as to bequeath the enviable legacies of the organisation to the next generation of staff just as the previous generation of staff handed to them an LSDPC they were proud of.
Following his speech, Governor Sanwo-Olu presented merit awards to past MD/CEOs of the corporation. Those who are of blessed memory were ably represented by members of their family. The governor and other eminent dignitaries then joined the management team of the corporation to cut the giant cakes specially designed for the anniversary. This was followed by a commemorative photo session where the management has the privilege of taking nice photographs with the Governor.
Before the governor’s speech, some top dignitaries that gave remarks about LSDPC at 50. They are the president of Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria (AHCN) Dr. Victor Onukwugha; the Oniru of Iruland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal and Speaker of Lagos state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Obasa ably represented by Honourable Rasheed Makinde.
At the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu was largely honoured and celebrated. Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria (AHCN) was given a merit award as the Most Performing Governor on Housing across the federation. The president of the association, Dr. Onukwugha presented this award to the governor as a way to say thank you for his supportive role.
The grand final of the ceremony was held on the 4th of November. It was an event which was specially organized to appreciate and celebrate all members of staff for their continuous effort and hard work towards the progress of the corporation. It was fun-filled, and saw many members of staff smile home with lots of gifts. The 50th anniversary was a great and remarkable event which many of those that actively participated in it would remember for good.
