Chief Tola Adeniyi, a widely traveled renowned journalist, has declared his support for the federal government’s proposed Ranching system to curb incessant attacks of herdsmen against farm owners across Nigeria.
He made this known at the 3rd annual lecture of Freedom Online held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at the prestigious Sheraton Hotel Ikeja.
He, however, gave conditions to facilitate peace and harmony that can propel smooth running of the Ruga system.
Speaking on the state of security in Nigeria, Akogun stated;
“Obilo, a friend of mine changed my perception on Ruga system, Let Buhari create Ruga, let His Excellency create Ruga in Oyo state, and let all the people working there be Oyo indigene, let all the farmers their bring in their cattle and rear them in their ranch.
“You can create Ruga in Enugu, but let all the people working in that Ruga come from that community, let them not bring in Fulani there at all. In fact, you can now drive them out of the market by rearing healthy cows and not the tired and frailed-looking cows that have trekked across Nigeria.
“My message, therefore, is, let there be 36 Rugas in the 36 states, send federal money to those places and let the people within the community manage the Ruga.
“Also, on policing, don’t deploy officers who are not familiar with the terrain, culture, language and heritage of a community. Let the Commissioner of Police in Ago Iwoye be an Ago Iwoye indigene. Okiro, for instance, does not know Akure, let the police monitoring Akure come from Akure.
“Let people police their own community”, he said.
