Have you run into Ms Nana Asmau Yakubu of late? Have you noticed how refreshingly young she looks at 60. She turned 60 a few days ago, and many still can’t get over her beautiful & sweet looks at 60. For those who don’t know this stylish woman of substance, lets quickly tell you that she is the Nigerian Ports Authority topshot who retired a few months back having attained retirement age.
Now, she is into private practice. She is planning to open an outlet in Lekki soon to keep busy. She herself is amazed that she does not look 60. “Since I turned 60 I have been wondering why I haven’t started feeling 60. I don’t feel any different right now,” she says. She recently had a party in Lagos, where she and her friends danced and danced in celebration of a life well spent.
Let’s tell you her story. Born in the sixties into a humble and respected family, Nana Yakubu hails from Okene, Adavi Local Govt Area of Kogi State and mother from Sokoto. “After my Primary and Secondary education, I enrolled at Kwara State College of Technology, where I studied from 1981 to 1982 and came out with a Diploma in Law”.
“To further fulfill my aspiration for a successful Legal Profession, I proceeded to the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where I graduated with a LL. B in 1985. Immediately after graduation, I then proceeded to the prestigious Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos and was called to Bar in 1986”.
“My work experience started at the Federal Ministry of Justice, where i observed the mandatory National Youth Service in 1987. My excellent performance during the service year, led to my securing employment at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in 1988.”
“Since joining the services of this Federal Government agency, I have worked towards the growth and development of the organization, and recorded a steady career growth, rising through the ranks to become Assistant General Manager, Public-Private Partnership Division, in 2017 and then General Manager, Administration, 2019, a position I occupied till my retirement on 25th, July 2020,” she explained.
“I have also attended many courses and training. Some of them includes Effective Delegation for Attainment of Goals, by Vicabim Consult; Lake Forest Consultancy Limited, Effective Contract/ Negotiation Management; Adval in R12.X Oracle Self Service Human Resources and Adval on Leadership Trainings; Bharkem Limited training on strategic Thinking Business Planning for Leaders; ICPC Anti-Corruption Leadership Training and D & B Training on Decision Making and Strategic Management, among others.”
“I am also a member of Women in Logistics and Transport, Nigeria and have also received the Association’s Outstanding Administrative Performance Award, in 2018 and once again honored with Outstanding Administrative Performance in Civil Service by MMS WoFHoF Initiative.
Corporate & Media Africa Communications Limited also gave me a prestigious investiture of the Outstanding Women in National Development Merit Award (OWINDA 2019)
“I’m a loving and fulfilled mother who loves good association and willing to contribute to community development wherever I find myself. It was for this reason that the Imo State Towns Development Association, Lagos (ISTDAL) in 2017, honored me with the title of Eze Nwanyi Nwere Ugwu, meaning “Queen Mother of Honor”.
