Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson–Okojie has come under intense criticism on social media after publicly endorsing All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election.
In a viral video, Mercy Johnson-Okojie was seen campaigning at a rally, urging voters to support Monday Okpebholo in the September 21 election, citing the lack of basic amenities like electricity, water, healthcare, and security in Edo State.
“Are you not tired? No light, water, healthcare, security and good roads. If you will vote for senator Monday, raise your hand,” she said, rallying the crowd to support Okpebholo and the APC party.
Since the video went viral, X (formerly known as Twitter) has been ablaze with complaints and criticism from users, many of whom disapproved of her support for the ruling party amid the economic challenges in the country attributed to APC.
Social media users accused Johnson-Okojie of compromising her integrity for political gain, while others questioned how she could support APC amidst the nation’s challenges.
