•As He Donates His Old 32-Room House To OGSG
Not many people are aware that a former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has moved into his sprawling home, inside the Presidential Hilltop in Abeokuta, before he announced last week that he was offering the Hilltop house to OGSG to be used as Isolation Centre in Abeokuta. We can tell you authoritatively that the Owu-born politician now resides in a private apartment inside Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library not far from his former home. But one can not but wonder why he left his beautiful home where he used to hold meetings with those who matter in and outside Nigeria and converted the mansion into a hotel. The former house was renovated to be a hotel, an extension of the Green Legacy Resort, also located inside OOPL behind NNPC area of Abeokuta.
His former mansion was no doubt located in an area where the super-rich in Abeokuta live. Initially, it was known as Olusegun Osoba Hilltop, now Presidential Hill Top which is directly opposite NNPC mega station by the turning beside National Open University (Noun). It was opened during the administration of Aremo Olusegun Osoba and this Hilltop houses former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s beautiful mansion with the homes of other Super Rich Ogun Indigenes like Tunji Sunmonu (the Egba-born top businessman who owns Sky Pavilion building on Oke Ilewo with several other thriving businesses in Abeokuta), Segun Ajibola and several others.
The presidential Hilltop is bordered to the left by Oke Sari Village an old serene Egba settlement, which has also developed immensely owing to the establishment of the Hill Top. Most of the First allottees of Land on the Osoba Hilltop where people close to Aremo Osoba like the Late Oluwo Segun Taiwo and some prominent traditional rulers. The most fascinating thing about the Presidential Hill Top is its well-tarred road and illuminated serene environment which makes it admirable to visitors at all time of the day attest to the impression that the place is really a haven for the Super Rich.
Obasanjo’s mansion inside this estate is not just massive but it is very visible and can be seen from different areas in Abeokuta, visitors who are not regular in town might mistake the mansion for a five-star hotel considering the shape of the structure and the fact that it was built on a hill, it is the biggest and largest property on the estate.
No one will ever have thought Baba would leave his beautiful multi-million naira mansion for a smaller but cosy apartment inside his OOPL. Surprisingly, the home is now used as his hotel, lodgers are being taken to his hilltop home to check out the new rooms when they have overflow at the main Green Legacy Resort. According to an insider, Baba’s room at his former home was neither renovated nor converted for public use, everything was left the way it was and also costs a hundred thousand naira to get the room per night, which some people regarded adventurous. The Hilltop home now has 36 rooms for lodgers.
Baba, as he is fondly called now, enjoys the atmosphere of OOPL, which is more or less a city on its own, in his new apartment, located at the back of the main library. OOPL is a one-stop adventure zone that has everything anyone will be seeking for fun or for official purposes, it has close to the entrance a big Amusement Park, a Church, a Mosque, Kids Store, Adire and Daviva Store, a 1200 Capacity Marquee, the Green Legacy Resort with more than 200 rooms, Four Different Capacities Conference Centre, Two Swimming Pool, A Jazz Lounge, A club, The Bamboo bar, A Salon, A Spa, A Gym, The karate Centre, The Hill Bar, The Main Auditorium, The Cinema, The Main Presidential Library, Chalets for senior staffs, the Wild Life Park and more.
