It was an evening of glitz and glamour as Miss Black Europe crowned the 2018 MBE beauty Queen on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at the prestigious City Hotel, R & A Ikeja, Lagos.
2018 MBE witnesses an array of African fabrics and cultural heritage from across the eastern and western parts of the country. The models were not only glamorous in their outfits but they also displayed intelligence and eloquence in responding to the judges.
Miss Oluwapelumi Margaret Ogundeji, a marketing graduate of the University of Ilorin, emerged the winners amongst 11.
Miss Abisola Ajayi won Miss Culture and first runner-up, Miss Urowoli Edoja followed while Chika Okafor won the audience vote.
The event, which was the first of its kind in Nigeria, also witnessed the presence of important dignitaries in Nigeria.
Speaking to newsmen, the convener of MBE, Sola Opesan Brown, stated that her passion for humanity and giving back to the society inspired her decision to create pageantry.
“Having existed for 10 years and in six countries, we decided to bring it down to Nigeria and give back to the community our own little way.
“I empower ladies; the economy will be a better one because they will empower others.
“What I do is to mentor, brand and empower them; so I give my time to these girls, coach them and give them the key to success.
Beyond the outer beauty is the inner beauty, the will to give back, so I do to you, you give back and the world will be a better place for us all.”
Brown added that the European standard of beauty was not adopted in Nigeria, but the African standard, which gives credence to the height and weight of the girls. The girls are between the ages 18-30 to contest.
These young ladies stood out because of their self-respect and respect for others, which is very important than having money,” she added.
