Otunba Yemi Lawal is a big player in the real estate sector. Last week, he sponsored the 4th edition of the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo National Squash Championship 2022.
His son, Oluwole Lawal represented him and revealed why his dad sponsored the event.
“I am Oluwole Lawal and I am here to represent my father, Otunba Yemi Saheed Lawal, the Osi Bobagunwa of Egbaland, and Chairman of Seagle Property Development Company Limited, the sponsor of this event who is currently unavoidably absent and on whose behalf I present this speech.
We thank God for making this event a reality and for sparing our life from last year when we had the 3rd edition until today. I also appreciate our unrelenting, energetic father, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for this initiative which is in its 4th edition. May the good Lord continue to spare his life for this initiative and for providing the platform and facilities for the tournament. So, I say a big thank you, sir. And to the Nigerian Squash Federation and the Ogun State squash council for making the championship possible, I say thank you for being a good partner.
I am impressed by the skill and discipline displayed by the participants and I congratulate the winners and the losers for their participation. The future for squash is very bright in Nigeria.
I like us to change our perception that squash is a military sport because it is played mainly by the army. Therefore, my organisation, in association with my friends and I, shall continue to support the sport and partner with the squash federation in Nigeria in developing the game in Nigeria. I also take this opportunity to call on the government, both at the federal and state level, to support the game of Squash to encourage our youths who have displayed great interest in the game.
I, therefore, congratulate the winners for playing a good game and others for their participation. I encourage you to put more effort into training; you might be the lucky winner next time. There are no winners nor losers, there is grace in trying, and by your participation, you have at least learnt something. The future is bright for all of you, and I congratulate you all.
At the conclusion of the 3rd edition in August 2021, I promised that the stake for the 4th edition this year would be higher. Therefore, in line with my promise, I offer a scholarship of N50,000.00 each for the 1st to 10 winners of this year’s 4th edition of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo National Squash Championship 2022”.
