Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one of the few Nigerians who have excelled in politics. He has not only achieved a lot in terms of his contributions to the growth of politics he has created a new generation of politicians who are young and vibrant. That is why some call him Kingmaker. Don’t forget that he is the only politician to have singlehandedly installed Governors, Ministers and Senators. It is to his credit that he was one of those who made it possible for Buhari to be President. He also installed his VP Osinbajo. He is that strong that kings, top politicians, businessmen, seek his blessing before they can dabble into a task.
He’s one of the few Southern politicians to be conferred a chieftaincy title in the North. He is the as Jagaban Borgu. He remains one of the most powerful Yoruba politicians who can take a bullet for his people.
He’s fought many battles. During the Abacha military regime, he fought the government with all his resources and courage.
Tinubu made it known a few weeks back when he visited President Buhari in Aso Rock that he was running for President, that becoming Nigerian’s President is a lifelong ambition for him. Why can’t a Kingmaker become a King? He also addressed this after his meeting in Aso Rock.
Tinubu, who has mentored many political leaders, said nothing can stop a kingmaker from becoming the king unless he has committed murder.
“About the cap of a kingmaker. I’ve never seen the cap of a kingmaker before. That is the truth, and I’ve never seen where it is written in the rule book, anywhere in any country, that a kingmaker cannot be a king unless you commit murder.
“So, whatever is your attribute is your own opinion. I want to pursue my ambition without the title of a kingmaker. “You can write your literature and your story based upon your own perception he had responded to journalists.” One of the few political leaders who have come out to oppose Tinubu’s decision is PDP Chieftaincy Bode George. Peoples Democratic Party Stalwart. Chief Bode George, has described the presidential ambition of All Progressives Congress Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as a huge joke.
George said while reacting to Tinubu’s decision to inform the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), of his intention to contest.
“This so-called ambition must be a huge joke. The Presidency of Nigeria is not for characters like Bola Tinubu. Look at how he mismanaged the resources of Lagos State. It is surprising that he can even dream of becoming the President of Nigeria. He is living in cuckoo land,” said George.
Another top shot who has also spoken against Tinubu’s Presidential ambition is Pa. Ayo Adebanjo. Ayo Adebanjo, leader of the Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has given reasons why the group will not support Bola Tinubu for President.
He noted that until the country is restructured, the group won’t queue behind any presidential candidate.
Addressing journalists in Lagos, Adebanjo, stressed that Tinubu has the right to run for the presidency in 2023.
Speaking on Tinubu’s presidential ambition, Adebanjo said: “Your man has every right to contest the election, he is not disabled, so what is the big deal about that?
“We are not contending who is the President now because we don’t believe in the constitution that we have. Until that constitution is changed, then we will talk about who the next President will be.
“We have no candidate now until that constitution is changed because I don’t want to go on an uncharted sea, that is the implication now.
“You must believe in the constitution before you say I want to be a part of it. I am not going to be part of the constitution or election that operates a military constitution. That’s the bone of contention and which President Buhari himself has not disputed. The constitution we have is a military one.”
But one of the prominent Nigerians who do not agree with Chief Bode George & Co is Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Community Church. He is one of Nigeria’s respected men of God whose political views always hold water within the political community. Pastor Tunde Bakare, the popular Clergyman who is known to be blunt and fearless in his approach has come out to accuse many Yoruba who have been criticising Tinubu on his intention to run for President. He warned Yoruba to stop killing their heroes. He made this known during a church service a few weeks back. Hear him”.
“Look, I’m telling you the truth, accept your humble pie. Eat it! When you were sleeping Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was working day and night. He secured Lagos, secured Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo and you say he’s nobody. Ode! (Stupid). And you think he would lay all that down to say come and take? No, he’s not a fool. He’s not an idiot. Stop all these nonsense about ancestry. You will kill your heroes and those who can deliver you; you will put them aside and nothing would happen. All these “Sakabula” leaders. They don’t have machine guns. All they have is “Sakabula”. Do you know what Sakabula means? Dane gun. He that has ears to hear let him hear. I’m not a friend to anybody. “Ojo’o ba enikan’ sore, eni’eji ri leji’n pa”. Stop plotting, scheming against someone. He had his past, you also have yours. Even Pope has a past. Don’t let me expose your men of God because they all have their past too. I also have my past too and you do too”.
This pronouncement of tacit support for Tinubu by Pastor Tunde Bakare has come as a huge surprise to many who didn’t expect he could throw his height behind Asiwaju. Political analysts have also observed that this is a good endorsement for Tinubu who really needs all the support he can gather to get his presidential ambition running full steam.
