Saturday 29th May, 2021 was a day to remember for the organizers and guests at the Dinner party organised to celebrate Smart Book Club, an emerging group of women who are at the fore front of promoting reading culture among women in the country.
The popular Ebonylife Place, Turaka Rooftop Bar and Restaurant in Victoria Island, Lagos hosted the remarkable event as notable women celebrities from all walks of life gathered to celebrate the club and it’s values. Smart Book Club was founded by Tito Obaigbo with the vision of Building a Global Network of Women to Read, Connect, Empower, Serve and Lead. Three years down the lane and still counting, the club is waxing stronger and getting more attention from all and sundry.
Part of the activities done to celebrate the anniversary was a reach out to Community Nursery and Primary School, Magodo which goes in line with it’s “Project School Library” goal. The pupils were motivated to take their studies serious. The School’s Library was thereby equipped with books and literature texts while students were given gifts such as School Bags, exercise Books and writing materials, toilet soaps, detergents, note books, and face mask. There teachers were not left out as they also got their own dues. The entire school pupils and their teachers went back home with lots of joy. This was done the day before the dinner party.
The Dinner party was so glamorous and eventful that guests were engaged in activities full of enlightenment. The high point of the event was when Michael Adesanya, the Author of the book “ADEWALE: My Mother’s Son” gave an emotional account of how he rose from nothing to something, all thinks to his mother’s sacrifice which motivated him. Also the highly inspirational Book titled “Show Up” written by Tolu Michael was reviewed by Dr. Chidinma Ajayi and a number of lessons derived from the book by the reviewer. This was followed by the cutting of the stylish cake designed for the occasion after which everyone took to the dancing floor and flow with the classics waxed by the disc jockey. Foods and drinks were also provided to meet the taste of everyone at the event.
Notable among the distinguished guests present at the event are: Lady Nkiru Anumudu, an Icon and Director of Globe Motors; Mrs. Omotayo Omotosho, MFR Ace broadcaster and Former DG, Tourism fondly called Madam Tourism and her lovely husband Pastor Segun Omotosho.
Also worthy of note on the list of special guest for the event are Rt. Hon Titi Oseni Gomez, MFR – Former Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly; Mrs Clara Oloniniyi – MD, Infinity Microfinance; and Mr. Michael Adesanya, Author and Stanford Business School Alumnus, Michael Adesanya. Meanwhile, these respected individuals were all thrilled by renown TV broadcaster and event compere, Obafemi Craig as his class of presentation made them all feel at home.
