US Based Celeb Woman, OMOBONKE OLOLADE ADEYINA
There is a newly formed all women social club in town named “Forever Grateful Women Social Club”. The club which is strictly for mature women of substance who live in Nigeria, Canada, US and UK. It is gradually stamping its feet for relevance on the social scene thanks to its founder, US-based Celeb woman, Mrs. Omobonke Ololade Adeyina . The club boasts of having a clear vision centred around improving the welfare of members and giving back to the society by time. This they plan to do from time to time round the year. The club which was set in June, 2023 has no doubt been a blessing to members with quite a lot of activities going on within it. Members are presently gathering momentum ahead of forthcoming official launching of the club in Nigeria come 2025. They are making the launching a grand and remarkable. City people JAMIE ABUBAKAR (08085185886) had a chat with Mrs. Omobonke Ololade Adeyina where she revealed a lot about why the club was formed and how all members residing abroad plan to storm Nigeria for good and by extension touch lives of the less privileged in the society. Below are excerpts:
What is your newly formed social club all about?
It was formed in June, 2023. I belong to so many social clubs but I decided to set up a more beneficial and helpful club to our people back home in Nigeria. Most members of this new club are based in America and the UK. When I conceived the idea of forming the club here in America, I consulted my friends in the UK. We then decided that we need to co-opt a few of us in Nigeria. This is to make our presence known back home as they can be able to represent at events or occasions organised on short notice. We may have members who have events within 8 and 40 days such as burials, naming ceremonies, wedding parties and so on. Getting invites on a short might mean those of us abroad won’t be able to attend. But we can easily send our members to Nigeria to represent us and do the needful. Presently the club has 22 members which comprises those in the UK, US, Canada and Nigeria.
We ensured that those we have as members in Nigeria have the means to travel abroad to attend our events either in London and America. So we have a policy that for those of us here who want to invite members in Nigeria to our events, we need to give them a minimum notification of 6 months ahead to allow them to get adequately prepared and get their travel documents intact. This will allow the 8 members we have in Nigeria to attend our event and those of us can also travel to Nigeria to attend events back home.
How did you coined the name for your club?
We initially had a name for the club which was Elegant Women’s Club but when we were trying to register it in Abuja that we were told that the name had been registered and that we needed to provide another name for the club. So we held a serious meeting online to deliberate on what to put forward as the name of the new club. After much deliberations and suggestions of names to be used, we voted and finally came up with ‘Forever Grateful Women Social Club’. The name was accepted and registered in Abuja after a series of checks and verification on the media.
What would you say are the achievements your club has recorded within 1 year?
Being a club for women whose major activities have been done online, we have succeeded in doing so many things within the first year of its existence. We have organised a big thrift contribution among members and God is helping us out. Nobody has defaulted in the money contribution. We thank God that we are making head ways and positive impact on members through that. We therefore plan to come back to Nigeria to come and fulfil many promises and programmes. We plan to visit and reach out to the orphanage homes and the widows. We also plan to visit public schools to give out scholarships to students and probably give out books and other stationaries to them.
What’s the benefits of the club to members?
There are lots of benefits that await members of the club. We are out to assist members home and abroad in any of the capacities we are able to. The thrift contributions among us involves a lot of money which I won’t mention to you. There’s no mention who collects the lump sum that will not know it’s impacts in their respective business endeavours. The contribution is in millions and is part of the benefits. Those of us that lived abroad agreed to let members in Nigeria the first to access the money. The club is blessed with members who are well to do. We have Nurses, doctors and social workers among members here. So we decided to help those in Nigeria who are big time successful business women who have travelled far and wide. We also plan to collectively acquire land where members can build their houses close to one another. Something like an estate. That should be a benefit for all members.
How easy for you to organise members of the club within one year and keep the club running?
We took time to make sure we strict membership of the club to 22 so that we can manage it well. If we had thrown it open to the public, we would by now be having over 100 members. But we need to scrutinize to ensure that only the mature ones are invited to be members of the social club. We don’t want to added have chaotic and troublesome people as members. We need hardworking members who are married and responsible.
