How lucrative is the beauty business?
The beauty industry is one of the fastest growing industries with an estimated worldwide sale of beauty-related products and services to be more than$159 billion (about $490 per person in the US) US dollars (USD) each year. The beauty industry involves sales of cosmetics, perfume, and products for skin and hair care. Beauty salons and spas are considered the service sector of the beauty industry but now health clubs and cosmetic surgery are included as part of the beauty industry. The beauty industry has very deep roots in history. Some of the earliest records of man include some type of body adornment. People have sought ways to make them more noticeable and more beautiful. The main thing that seems to constantly change is how diverse cultures define human beauty. The beauty industry has been a natural outgrowth of the human need to improve their looks, based on modern perceptions of beauty. This has made the beauty industry one that will continue to grow and one that is not going anywhere.
How lucrative is the beauty industry of today?
It is relative and based on the perception and interest of the individual asking. I believe being beautiful is the goal of every woman and is something that takes constant daily improvement to enhance our look and change the way people see us. With that being said, we need daily skin care, hair care and beauty products that will help make that change which requires constant purchase and in turn puts money in the pocket of those involved in the beauty business.
Why are more and more ladies going into beauty?
Every girl grew up to see their mother or Aunty or Guardian applying beauty products and most of the time fall in love with the colors and touch. Studies show that the more attractive a person is, the more likely he or she is to be successful. Good looks give people a head start in most areas of life, including business and relationships. Good-looking people usually have an easier time finding a job, and in many cases, beauty can play a role in earning potential. In most cultures, women are expected to be attractive, while men are often forgiven their looks, and this may be why women account for high sales within the beauty industry. I also believe that most girls love the idea of being able to “do what you love and get paid for it,” there is nothing more satisfying than that and coupled with the fact it is easy to start your entrepreneur journey and make a name for yourself. For some of us, it starts with wanting to proffer solutions to last –long skin problems and having tried everything that is out there, we join the industry with the goal of making something that works. There are several reasons but the narrative remains the same “Being able to do what you love and are passionate about and being paid for it”
Which area of the business would you say is the most lucrative?
The best-selling beauty products are products that cleanse and beautify hair, because women tend to run out of hair products and it requires frequent purchase than cosmetics and skincare. Hair care is estimated to bring in $40 billion (about $120 per person in the US). Other leading products of the beauty industry are related to skin care and cosmetics. Skin care is estimated to generate sales of about $23 billion (about $71 per person in the US) USD yearly, which includes purchases of moisturizers, anti-aging ointments and brightening products like Face cream, lotions, Serums, and Oils especially in some areas in Africa where being light skinned has become a trend. Finally, Cosmetics are estimated to bring in about $18 billion (about $55 per person in the US) USD each year. Makeup products in the likes of foundations, powders, eye shadow pallets, lipsticks and more are a must have for every woman. Beauty, they say is in the eye of the beholder, beauty I say is within you, know that you are beautiful and state it!
