How did the idea of inviting King Wasiu Ayinde come in? How did you meet him?
I love King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall. I love him not because of his music, I love him because he is an optimistic person. I love him because he doesn’t give attention to his detractors. I love him because his songs give me inspiration. I don’t want to lie about that.
When we started from a room in Oshodi, when we were in our room, the first TV my father bought, he contributed before buying the TV and our room was closer to the toilet. Then we were Muslims; my parents have not given their lives to Christ then. Trust me as a Prophet I love Islam. Not even the biggest Pastor can stop me from liking Islam because I don’t know who you are fighting for. So, are you saying if you are praying and somebody who wants to bless you called and because he is a Muslim, you will tell him not to bless you? Or a Christian wants to bless you, so because you are a Muslim you will say he shouldn’t bless you?
Why are we fighting for God?
When Alhaji sang “Talaso Disco”, my mother would call me Wasiu. She would lay one hand on the television and the other hand on my head, and she would start praying for me, that this Wasiu is successful, you too will be successful. I didn’t know much then. To the point that my mother would fast for Alhaji that he won’t come down.
Whatever you plant you will harvest it. So many people don’t go to Church or Mosque, and they are successful. So, when I now grew up, my mother will still say, do you remember Alhaji; do you still pray for him? My mother has not met Alhaji in her life. The prophecy of 84 now happened a few Sundays back.
Alhaji has never had any problem that he would say Dele pray for me, but sometimes glory comes together when destiny magnetizes glory something would happen.
There was a day he saw me. I didn’t know he has been watching me. He saw me at Oriental and he said I like you; I like your personality. I have been watching you. You have made me change my perception about Cele Church and I know it must have caused you a lot. When I told Alhaji how my mum would pray for her, Alhaji now said I must know that woman one day.
Just when I had a 70th birthday for my Mum this year, it was “Baba” Ebenezer Obey that decided he would come and sing without collecting a penny and he didn’t collect. I had thought I would ask Baba Obey to play for my Dad when he would be 75 because when his song “Olowo Laiye Mo” was reigning, my father used to cry whenever he listened to the song from another person’s room.
So, all these things made me decide that I would call Baba Obey when he turns 75, but death was smarter than me. But when my Mum was 70, I decided to surprise her. There is a place that wasn’t far from where we lived where my mother used to do canteen attendant; where she used to wash plates. They were selling “Amala” there. Then I would leave school and go and wash for my Mum because all the remnants would be the one I would take home.
One day, a customer came to eat and left a roll of Eba, so my mother quickly gave it to me to eat before she starts washing her plate. The owner of the canteen (a woman) now slapped my mother that she didn’t allow the customer to leave before she gave me the remnant. So that same venue where my mother was canteen attendant, somebody now bought it 5 years ago and changed it to an event centre and that is why I decided I would celebrate my Mum’s birthday at their event centre.
My mother didn’t know; it was a surprise party. I rented a limousine. We paraded her around there. When she now got to the venue, she was dumbfounded because it was a place she served as a canteen attendant.
